One new spot off the wait list

I feel that by the letter my daughter just sent in the mail yesterday, that some deserving young person will have their dream of attending Carolina realized. After months of pondering over this important decision, she decided not to attend Carolina. Though she thinks it's a wonderful school, she just did not think that it would fit her. She instead chose a much smaller, private college that she received a partial scholarship for. If not for the scholarship, she would have not been able to attend there.

I prayed for years that she would be able to make the right choice in colleges so she could achieve her potential, and I feel that she has made the best choice for her. Chapel Hill would have been the best place if she felt the fit was right, but she did not and I have to go along with her choice.

Thank you all for answering all my questions as I have traveled this path with my daughter. Now she is on the road to her future.

I feel good in knowing that some deserving young person will feel mighty good when they go to the mailbox or their site on the Carolina web page and find out they have been accepted due to the spot that my daughter's decline opened up.

Good luck to you all and thanks again!

I am happy that your D has found her place.
Good luck to her in the next 4 years of her life.

Good luck to your D. Hope she has an amazing expereince.

Re: waitlist, unfortunately schools don't tap into their waitlist until they go through their yield. But your D's choice has put someone that much closer.

good luck to your daughter and i wish her the best of luck at her choice. I am waitlisted at UNC and hoping i will get in. By the way is your daughter instate or OOS?

i have also decided against unc...i'm going to duke...so someone is that much closer to getting into unc off the waitlist

i am out of state btw

my s has sent in his letter explaining that he will be accepting at another school.

thanks to reading this site, we came to the conclusion that he would thrive at a more diverse, private school. we appreciate all of the feedback and insight that we were given. unc is beautiful and would have been a great choice but in the end, he felt that he could grow in his own way at the school he accepted.

Good wishes to your son. It is hoped that your decison turns out to the best one for him.

We are also delighted that our S's decision will make another UNC spot open up for a deserving OOSer. He'll be down the road a piece and hanging out on Franklin St. from time to time, however. Be nice to him, now.

Maximus, what makes you think the spot will only go to an lOOSer, loops did I spell that wrong?

i am also an OOS...i am turning down UNC and will be attending Emory this year....

congrats ahhhhhhhhhh!!!

i hope all that are waiting for the wl decisions are happy with the answers. my s's hs friend got flat out rejected and was shocked (connections, money, minority, etc) and from what i hear Duke was near impossible to get into this year. but all keep in mind that fun is at every school. once you set your mind to the school you decide on, it is as much fun as any other place. we bought the shirts, went to a game, visited the department he is interested in, going to a mixer for new kids off campus, and ate at all the little joints near campus and it turns out that he has not even looked back on his decision. Good luck to whoever gets his oos spot. and to those that don't, EVERYtHING is what you make it.
