ONE spot out of top 5% frustration!

I am 31 out of 617 in my class! I was in top 5% until this semester. I am applying ED to Rice.. most of their admits are in the top 5%, so will being one spot out in such a large class hurt my chances much? I will no doubt be in the top 5% once january rolls around.. DARN IT

I don’t know the answer to your question, but my son made the 5% cutoff by TWO people.

It was that close.

I don’t think it will matter that much for you.

If my son had missed the cutoff, I would not have been in the least bit concerned.

I agree with Floridadad…good job on a strong record. Now focus on what you can still control.

Rice will not penalize you or your application – you are still in the top 10% which is great. If you have a solid application, grades, reccs, EC’s, SATs, passions, and do a great job with “the box”, you should be fine. Go Owls!

It would certainly be much worse to be outside the top 10% by one person…I think you will befine.

^ I am out of the top 10 by 1 person…58 of ~570 ■■■

That really sucks.

31/617 is still impressive.

I don’t think it makes a difference.

I think that if it did a school would round and you would be in the top 5%.

Congratulations on an impressive ranking
