One Writing Question from Grubers

We requested the superintendent of the building (to clean) up the storage room (in) the basement (so that) the children (had) enough space for their bicycles.

This is from Gruber's.
Does any body know the answer to this? Cause i sure as heck don't. All i know is that the answer is NOT (E), which was my first pick but i got it wrong, according to my tutor. (she never gave me the answer)

If i were to guess, i would say the answer is HAD simply because the tense is subjunctive, indicated by "requested"; so, it would have to be "Would have" or something (haha)

bump…

its a conditional

yeah

had changed to

would have obv.

u cant do much else

I would prefer the sentence to be:

We requested that the superintendent of the building clean up the storage room in the basement so that the children would have enough space for their bicycles.
