I want to take one more AP course outside of my school because my school does not provide it. However, I am not intending to take the online course provided by the school because it is freaking expensive. So I found a site where they say that they are going to give credit
http://education-portal.com/

Im not sure whether it is scam or not but I think its real (correct me if im wrong).

So will it be possible to get credit by relying the site which says that they give credit and if so will it be worth doing it?

you need to double check with your school. If you are at the max number of classes for your school, they probably won’t allow it onto your transcript for the GPA bump. However, if all you want to do is take the AP exam, maybe you can sign up with your school for the may testing.

@ZBD5421 I do not want gpa bump or something. I just want to get credit for taking the class. Also I am going to the exam but by the time it will be just for class placement.

So you are using it for class placement at your high school? or are you a senior and you are using it for class placement when you get to college? From what I know, class placement/credit for AP classes is based solely on the score you get for your AP exam. You could self-teach yourself if you wanted(home schoolers). You need to get usually a 3-5 for college credit for AP courses. Ivies require 5 only, other schools are 4 or 5 and state schools a 3.
My son has scored all 5’s so we are finding the higher scores, esp in math and science will get you more credit/higher placement. Does that help?

@ZBD5421 Im sorry for the lack of description. What I meant was that I want to take the online course to show that I took AP level course. Although it would not show up on my school transcript, I believe there were some way that I can show I took the AP online course. I wanted to know whether it is possible to take ap online class and still get credit for taking the course.

You have to go ask your counselor. He/She’s the one in control of your records and each school is different. At my school, people go to a local college if they want to take additional classes. But ultimately, you’re counselor decides whether to place it on your transcript or not. But usually you can take an online course and get credit for it.

@Annl233 like the problem is that my school policy is that you cannot take more than 2 ap per year. I already took two easy ap course (Human geo and calculus). I want to take another one outside of the school but i am pretty sure that my counselor is not going to allow me take outside of school ap online course. So i found a site where it says that they will give us AP “course” credit. I do not want it to be on the transcript or gpa but I just want college to see that I took the course in other way.

@Annl233 also the online ap course is freakishly expensive. My family income cannot support such burden. So I am looking for a good organization or site that is cheap and does not require schools permission yet still give certification for completion of the course. Do you know any by chance?

That’s the thing. You need the school’s okay in order to enroll. At least you do in my school. And even if you don’t how are you supposed to separately hand in your course work. Your school controls your one transcript, the one colleges look at. And most of your transcripts are handed in virtually, so you can’t just staple on your AP proof. Listen, I suppose you can look at all your options and try to win your counselor over. But ultimately, colleges know how many ap’s your school offers and the maximum ap’s that a person is allowed to take. Given that, colleges are understanding and you can also put it in your essay. So that factor shouldn’t deter your likelihood of admittance. Ivy leagues like seeing a lot of AP’s if the school GIVES that many AP’s, showing that you’re an opportunist. If your counselor says no dual enrollment, then what are you going to do?

Sorry, was on vacation. IF you want to take the class you can, IF you take the AP exam and score a 4 or 5 you WILL get credit, then you will be able to say you took the class and passed the exam. The AP exam is what gives you credit. But if your school only allows you to take 2 AP’s per year, then you should be just taking 2 every year. Don’t burden your family with the cost if it is tough for you. Here is a thought for you… Go to one of the many Ivies on-line programs. They are free and IF you finish the class, you get no credit, but you get a certificate for taking and “passing” the class. This would really show you were trying to do more…
