My son is working on his online app, and when he clicked on "pay with credit card" he got a message saying that this, this, and this are missing. He goes back to those pages, and sure enough they are missing (things like quick takes, short answers, activies, etc.). So, he retypes them goes on to pay with credit card again, and this time a different thing will be missing. He called USC and the girl who answered was clueless. We're about to have a heart attack here. Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas?

My son didn't have the same problem, but did have all his courses/grades disappear at one point. The only thing we could find in the help section was this, which might help you:

Technical Problems?
Most problems we hear are solved by using a supported browser, with correct settings. Our application is optimized to be used with updated versions of Internet Explorer versions 6.0 or higher, or Netscape versions 7.0 or higher. Also, browsers should be set to automatically check for newer versions of stored pages.

for Internet Explorer: Under the Tools menu, select Internet Options. On the General Tab, click the settings button for Temporary Internet files. Under check for newer versions of stored pages, select Automatically.

I had that problem, too. But the solution is easy: when you review the short answers, essays, etc. and you want to return to the main menu, ALWAYS click on "save", even when you didn't change anything. When you click cancel, everything will be deleted.

Yes- ^that may be the answer or...

I remember something similar last year. We were trying to use Safari on a mac. Luckily, we had a PC in the house and used that.

I just read the "technical problems" stuff myself. S told me he already did all that, although he is using Firefox and it specifically says that Internet Explorer and Netscape are the supported browsers. He said he tried it on IE and it did the same thing. I am so frustrated that he waited until the last day to do this!!! (He is applying for film production so today is the deadline for that).

I did feel better when I read the part saying not to worry if there are technical problems, but to let them know and they'll work with you.

Partial success....the app is recorded as submitted on the status check, however the courses and grades from grades 10-12 are missing. He's trying again. Why won't they let you just submit a transcript?!?!

I'm so sorry you're having all this trouble. Just wondering...doesn't the production application have to be filed on paper by today? My son applied to Critical Studies, and sent it in express mail last Friday so that it would arrive by today's deadline. The FAQ for admissions at the School of Cinematic Arts says the application should arrive - not be postmarked - by 12/10. You probably know all this and have it covered. I don't mean to panic you, but just in case, I thought you should know.

Also, be forewarned that when you go to print out the main USC app (to include with the cinema app), you'll find out that you just have to print it section by section - it doesn't generate a finished and printable document for you.

Good luck tonight!

Timely..I think that as long as it shows as submitted, you should be ok for the deadline. As for the missing courses/grades, didn't the counselor submit the transcript with his/her evaluation?
Just to reassure you, we had our own panic here. D submitted 2 weeks ago, but today I was sure the app fee hadn't been paid. I can't for the life of me remember paying, since routine here is that D asks me just to check over app and then supply credit card. So we called USC today. All was ok, payment was received, but we were reassured that if anything HAD been missing, not to worry. USC seems flexible and helpful when there are glitches.
Perhaps you could call, explain situation, and fax over the missing grades.
Good luck!

Yes, the production app had to be submitted, too. That was a disaster also. We planned to fax it because my good-for-nothing son hadn't finished it yet. Ok, he's not really good-for-nothing, but let's just say he had me at the very end of my rope yesterday.

He started trying to fax it Sunday night and the fax machine was constantly busy. Tried till 1 a.m. and then started trying again at 7 a.m. (CST). Busy, busy, busy. So, I called. The girl said that the fax machine wasn't running constantly or anything, but then she remembered that it's on the same line as the phones and the phones had pretty much been busy all day. She said just to take it to the post office and get it postmarked by yesterday. That was a problem. It was already 6 p.m. our time and the post office was closed. She didn't answer this directly, but seemed to indicate that we just needed to get it in and they'd take it. So, I emailed telling them the situation (got an auto-reply, so it might not be read) and it's going out today. That's all I can do. If he doesn't get in due to the stuff being late, it's his own fault.

Now he has FSU film school due on 12/15 and his ROTC scholarship still missing some stuff that needs to go in. As soon as he gets home from taking a final (dual-credit at the cc), I'm going to sit him down, make him finish it and take it to the post office today....and express mail it.

I'm feeling pretty discouraged right now about how he'll ever keep up in college. He has dropped a lot of balls on this whole college application thing, and I've been there to pick a bunch of them up.

timely- I honestly understand how you feel. I have already sent three off to college (two are still attending and one actually graduated!) This is one of the most difficult times for moms- and teenagers. It's nature's way of making it easier to send them off! But these difficult times turn into funny memories and when he comes home from college to visit, you will be so happy to see him!

I, too, thought they wouldn't make it through college without my help, but I made a concerted effort to stay out of it. They had to take care of themselves or natural consequences set in. If they didn't register on time, they got a bad schedule. If they didn't buy a parking permit on time, they had to walk from the far lot. Their only requirement from us is that they didn't get kicked out and they finished in 4 years.

Enjoy your holidays and try to forgive him. It does sound like he's got a lot going for him and I'm sure you know it.
