What is the general offering of online classes in the summer anyway? I'm looking to take a summer course but I cannot really afford to pay for housing during the summer so it would be easier for me to stay at my parent's and work online. I'm currently taking RTV3001 online (film studies minor) but I don't see much else on the FSU website than computer and communcations courses for online. Is this any different for the courses commonly offered in the summer?

P.S.: The class I’m looking at is HUM 3321 Multicultural Dimensions of Film and 20th Century Culture. Anyone know if they offer it all year around? (because I saw it open for spring but I don’t know about summer).

Online classes still have to be taken IN TALLAHASSEE unless you are enrolled in a distance learning program. For most classes the tests are administered on campus at the testing center. [FSU Center for Assessment and Testing - Tests and Test-taking - Overview](http://learningforlife.fsu.edu/cat/test/index.cfm) Quizes are online and taken along the way, but tests/exams are taken at the testing center–some online and some not. You can find out more at orientation, but for a 6 week class where tests are sometimes every few days instead of every few weeks, I don’t think you can be at home taking classes. Sorry.

Really? That kind of defeats the point of an online class and so far I’ve taken all my exams online in the class I’m taking right now. Thanks for the info though.

It looks like I’m doomed. I need to make up a course so I can keep my scholarship and summer is the only time I can do it but I can’t afford summer housing and parents live too far away to commute…

Maybe you can enroll as a transient student at a college near your home for the summer term and use the earned credits from there toward your FSU degree; go see your academic advisor and the financial aid people to see if you can do it.

Actually my cousin took a few online classes and didn’t step foot on campus over the summer. That’s what I was planning to do.

When will list of summer courses offered show up on Blackboard? I’d consider taking some FSU online courses summer term. I don’t think too many online courses are offered and I seem to remember that you still have to show up on campus for some of the online courses for tests and stuff, which seems to defeat one of the main advantages of taking online classes…not having to be at the school (distance learning)!

Well the courses for summer wont be on Blackboard until feb 28th and by then it’ll be too late to drop the class i want to replace credits with before it gets stuck on my transcripts. I only have 6 days to decide what I’m going to do now. It would be risky to drop and hope I could find an online summer course that would work for me…
