Online Classes

Does anybody know of any good places to take online classes that your school does not have to be a member of to participate in, unlike cyberhigh.org and apexlearning.com. I am looking to get ahead, but my school is not a member of these online schools.

I have taken/will take several online courses. As a soph. I took a couple of classes from the University of Nebraska (I know....) through their high school program, they were really easy classes that i just had to take online b/c they were required and i couldn't fit them into my schedule. next year i'm taking two ap's from apex learning, btw, is it really very difficult to become a member of that? i have the worst/most disorganized/least involved GC of all time and my school is signed up for it, even though i think i'm going to be the first to use it. hmmm... anyway, i'll also be taking some advanced math from a program affiliated with Stanford U. that i think should be really good. they're not affiliated with your high school, so your school wouldn't have to do anything, but they do cost somewhere around $500/semester. (i'm currently trying to get my school to pay for it but my principal and GC are the same person and well...I already told you about him) i'm totally drawing a blank on the name of the program but i think you could probably find it if you googled it or something. i know they also offer science courses and i think some other ones too. let me know if you have any questions, if i think of the name i'll post it.

Has anyone used uccp.org? They are UC-type courses.

I'm taking correspondence classes through BYU. I took health which was sooooo easy, it was really stupid. But right now I'm taking precalc. It's not that bad. I don't think that your school has to be a member or anything.
I don't known anything about about uccp.org though. sorry

The UCCP program looks well organized and (relatively) inexpensive. If you're taking classes for high school credit, then your state univ. is probably the best bet for getting the credit accepted. Some other options are the PAHomeschoolers, EPGY (much more expensive) , Univ. of Texas Distance Education (not online for the college level courses)

I took UCCP American History, it was the most terrible experience of my life, my professor hated me, and thus gave me terrible grades...luckily it doesn't count and I'm taking AP US at my school next year. On the bright side, I received an apology from UCCP's director for the unfair treatment I received.

ussitinthegap, did that seem like a normal occurance type problem? or was it unique since the director did apologize. Since he apologized, gives me the impression it isn't always like that around the board.

I was interested in taking Honors Psychology and AP Spanish with UCCP. How easy (or hard) is it to get a school counselor to approve the courses as honors credit and thus a higher GPA? Thanks!

Kristin, I think you're talking about EPGY @ Stanford.
