Online College Interview - What to Wear

Hello! I have an online college interview (ZOOM) this week! Is my interview dress choice appropriate? (I am female)
I am wearing a cream-colored blouse with black slacks (in case I stand up or sit taller). My hair is down and I’m wearing a really small gold necklace (my mom’s good luck charm haha).

Thank you!

That sounds just fine. Also be sure you have decent lighting in the room you will be in and pay attention to what you will have in the background for your zoom interview (definitely doesn’t have to be anything special…just be sure nothing in the background could be offensive to anyone.)
Good luck!

Thank you so much @happy1 I found a good and simple background (just my wall) with a painting of a hiking trail.

Thank you so much!!

Yes, have a quiet room and a non distracting background. If you are using a phone, make sure your camera is set up to point straight at your face rather than too low.

I’ve done interviews for scholarships and some students wear school colors or college related jewelry. It isn’t necessary but is a conversation starter.

This is so helpful too thank you so much @Ikg4answers!! Haha yes, I told my family that I am doing an interview, and they said they will stay in their rooms until the coast is clear!

Using a laptop with good lighting and face composition is okay right? Thank you!!

Sounds perfect. Good luck!

Funny story. My son and I did a Zoom presentation recently when over 200 people were watching. We set up in our living room and sat on the couch. The audience could see us in front of a window that overlooked our front porch. Our backs were to the porch. The person running the meeting said, “There’s a man on your porch without a shirt on!” Sigh. It was a hot day and my husband had gone outside to get the mail. I didn’t think it was a big deal, but the meeting leader brought it up afterwards. You try your best but sometimes things go awry and you just have to laugh.

Thank you so much for this! I will definitely try to minimize the troubles, but this is such a lighthearted warning. ahhaa I hope the presentation was okay though, Thank YOU!!

My counselor at school once told us that if necklaces etc. are worn at interviews, you might easily end up touching it all the time if you get nervous… But actually I think that’s not a big problem and if you don’t easily get nervous it will be fine. Good luck!!!
