i did very poorly (1850) on the Sat my first time around and am looking to actually prepare for the test the second time around and make around the 2100 mark.

the course i'm looking into is an online kaplan sat prep class but its also $400

i would like to know if any of you have gone through the program..

Kaplan really isn't worth the money. I have a friend who took the online class and her score barely improved. The problem with the pre-structured courses (in general) is that you're going to spend a clear majority of the course relearning things you already know. I know that Kaplan structures your lessons based on a diagnostic test, but the bottom line is that it's just a computer and they really can't help.

What DOES help is finding a private tutor. I know that they're available through the Princeton Review (they cost about $75 an hour), and although they can be pricey, you get waaaay more bang for your buck in terms of score-raising. I spent three hours with a tutor and my score improved 200 points, whereas my friend who took the online Kaplan course only saw an increase of 80 points.

I took the Kaplan course (in class) and my score raised 440 points from my first diagnostic, 310 points from my first PSAT, and 130 points from my second PSAT.
