Online kaplan course worth the money?

i did very poorly (1850) on the Sat my first time around and am looking to actually prepare for the test the second time around and make around the 2100 mark.

the course i'm looking into is an online kaplan sat prep class but its also $400

i would like to know if any of you have gone through the program..

wat was your improvement after the class..

is it worth the money?

No no no, you won't have the motivation to do it. Sign up for the actual class

hmm thats interesting. why do you think i wont be motivated?

i have a 222 on psat
good gpa
good rank
good recomendation prospects..

all of that plus sat equals NMF

a good sat score for me means free college.

thats enough motivation right there.

Kaplan really isn't worth the money. I have a friend who took the online class and her score barely improved. The problem with the pre-structured courses (in general) is that you're going to spend a clear majority of the course relearning things you already know. I know that Kaplan structures your lessons based on a diagnostic test, but the bottom line is that it's just a computer and they really can't help.

What DOES help is finding a private tutor. I know that they're available through the Princeton Review (they cost about $75 an hour), and although they can be pricey, you get waaaay more bang for your buck in terms of score-raising. I spent three hours with a tutor and my score improved 200 points, whereas my friend who took the online Kaplan course only saw an increase of 80 points.

hmm. thats interesting...

thanks

How about that Kaplan intensive weekend (in-class course) one week before the SAT? Has anyone taken that? Is that an effective review?

I would honestly do PR instead...Princeton Review is much better IMHO. The tests are much more realistic.

I took the Kaplan course (not the online one) and my score improved 210 pts.

awesome thanks..

raas: Are you talking about the full length Kaplan course or the intensive weekend class that they offer a week prior to the exam?

the full length

I took the Kaplan course (in class) and my score raised 440 points from my first diagnostic, 310 points from my first PSAT, and 130 points from my second PSAT.

wow that is signifigant improvement..
