I am looking into online Computer Science programs and both Park University and Old Dominion University have them. Both are regionally accredited.
Differences:
Old Dominion - Public
Park - Private
Old Dominion - $263 per hour
Park - $355 per hour
Old Dominion - Only accepts 2 out of 5 general CLEP exams (I plan to take as many CLEP as possible)
Park - Accepts about all CLEP exams
If anyone has heard of one or both of these schools, please let me know what your opinion is.
I would go with Old Dominion, I live like 20 minutes from the campus. Old Dominion has an excellent Computer Science program compared to many other colleges regionally located here. Of course you know its been fully accredited already. Plus, they have a GREAT football team, my 2 cents lol! …even though the crime rate is high :S But, really its up to you because I don’t know much about Park University
I hadn’t done enough research. I need a program that is totally online and I just found out Old Dominion requires about 1/2 of the courses required for the degree to be taken on a campus, so… does anybody know anything about Park University? Their program is fully online.
Are you going to Park because it’s cheap? Honestly, it’s not going to matter. The University doesn’t hold any prestigue, so if you are looking for a job your experience is going to make or break you. If you are just looking for a degree then it will work, but start looking for internships or jobs that will give you experience because in the end that’s all that matters.
I don’t know much about Park, but have you looked at Columbia College? They have fully online degrees that are actually worth something. I’ve seen several top 10 online program lists, and they’re always on them. http://www.ccis.edu/online/
I just graduated from Park University and was just accepted into the Masters Program at Western Carolina University. Park worked great for me. Is a brick and mortar school in Missouri with a fully online program as well. They have very big involvement online with the military community going back many years, and is well known and respected in the Midwest region. It is regionally accredited and has good program accreditation in the business programs. It is not well known outside the midwest, or military communities as someone said earlier. But online degrees you have to be careful with, many times, well known means not good. U of P, Kaplan, Ashford, SNHU, are all well known due to their commercial advertising, but are not as highly respected as most other traditional schools. If anything, a not well known private school can be a stand out in sifting through resumes to raise the question, “where is this?”. Looking up the school, shows one of the more selective acceptance rates for a fully online program (64%), good program accreditation, and regional school accreditation. That will be all you need to get the interview, it’s up to YOU to win them over while there to get the job. Any fellow Marine of mine retiring after 20 years with a Park degree, has done well. One is a Human Resource Manager in North Carolina making 80k a year.
