I've found out this crappy fact a couple of days ago.
All incoming freshmen are required to take online placement tests (Chemistry, Foreign Language) unless they meet the requirement listed on "Get Ready" packet. Some of you guys are already aware of this test, but I found it quite cumbersome especially in summer break. So, you guys are all aware of this thing, right?

Chemistry test is required if you are going into engineering or a physical science, or if you are planning on taking chemistry (your options being chem 101, 102, and 202). It places you but you don't have to follow it (you might if you place highly enough to not be able to do chem 101). Foreign lanuguage only has to be taken if you are taking a foreign language. Unlike chemistry, you are required to go into the class it places you in (borderlines have leeway). You can take others to help but I dont know when you would do that. These are the only ones on the schedule for Orientation. The others would need to be done on your own time, which will be hard given only 1 day.

The tests are basic and really easy. My Spanish test was from the 80's (subjects were big hair and Madonna) and in English with the answers in Spanish. The chem one is only hard if you have had little to no chemistry education.

Foreign language placement test has to be taken unless you have already met the particular college's requirement -- 3 years of the same foreign language in high school for engineering, 4 years for A&S. If you have less than that, you must take the foreign language placement test (and then take foreign language in college as placed until you meet the requirement of third level (semester) course for engineering, fourth level for A&S). You say it is "on-line" but my recall is it is an actual test given to you at the university when you come for orientation. Be thankful -- they used to give a math test too.
