Hi I just committed to University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I was looking through the checklist and was wondering what the registration actually is, and as I live in the west coast and cannot physically attend registration day (super slim chance of actually going there for it), I was wondering how the online registration works and how different it is that in-person.

Thanks in advance for any useful info!

I’m a freshman here at uiuc and I’m from New Jersey so I did the online registration thing. If I remember correctly I got assigned a day and time to basically voice chat with my advisor and she tells you what to register for. The actual registration is done through UIUC self service (https://apps.uillinois.edu/selfservice/) and you can look up the suggested course sequence for your major online but I don’t think they let incoming freshman register until they talk with the advisor.

Yes, it’s your advisor who removes the hold preventing registration. That hold is replaced the next day and no changes to registration are allowed (unless, of course, you work something out) until the hold is once again removed for incoming freshman just prior to the start of the fall term.
