Today, I received an email from a Yale alum asking to interview me over Skype. I never applied for an interview, but I am very excited for the opportunity. My first question is whether they send these out to all applicants, or is this a good sign for me? My next question is what can I expect? How much should I dress up, where should I be while doing the interview, and then any other tips you have. Thank you!
They usually send out interviews to all the applicants that they can. It is not necessarily a good or a bad sign.
Business Casual is a good bet for the interview. Make sure to double-check your mic and audio equipment.
You can expect questions like:
Why Yale?
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
Tell me a little bit about your school.
Favorite Class and why.
What motivates you?
Do you have any questions for me?
These are the main ones I had for my interview (but for a different school). You can google common interview questions.
2 additional tips:
have good lighting on yourself
make sure it’s a relatively sound-proof room. The barking dog or kid brother’s sub woofer WILL be heard.
