Online Status says my "application has been cancelled"

<p>Ah... so here's what my status check says:</p>

<p>"Your application for admission has been cancelled.</p>

<p>According to our records, your application was completed after the deadline or was incomplete at the time we finalized our decisions. All available spaces for the semester to which you applied have been filled."</p>

<p>That's as of 3/30/13. But before that, my status had said it was complete. </p>

<p>Some background info: since the first day of my submission though, which was on time and before the deadline, my status had said that it was late. So through the first week, into December, I waited and did nothing as it said it would take time to process; I thought it was just processing and would be fixed soon. But after awhile, and the message still stayed as being late, my guidance counselor and I called the university to ask them about the problem. Throughout the following months, we called them two more times. Apparently there had been an issue with my application and the mail, so as they requested, we even resent the application just to make sure. We had confirmed eventually that my application was fine and that it would not be counted late, as I was worried it would affect their decision for my application. So after awhile, the problem was fixed, or so I had believed, with confirmation for me from the phone calls and on the online status stating I was finally complete. </p>

<p>But now, it's pretty much the April 1 date, and then I see that my application was cancelled for being late... </p>

<p>I don't know, has this happened to anyone else? I would call them, but it's Easter, so I suppose I should wait till first thing on Monday, but I'm afraid the situation will be - even if things are worked out - as they say, that all spots are already filled. Ah.</p>

<p>EDIT: Adding on to that, when I look at the like checklist they have online for your admission, I have all of the points completed as well - documents received, all dues paid, requirements, etc. </p>

<p>Am I doomed?</p>

<p>Your best bet is to call and ask to talk to the person who confirmed that your application would not be counted as late. Hopefully you caught the name of that person.
I am sure they will be able to work with you if they are at fault for leading you on.</p>

<p>When exactly did you submit your application? Was it 5 minutes before it was due or something?</p>

<p>I did the application a good time in advance (UT was my first to start ha) and submitted November 27. So four days before the Dec. 1 deadline. Not the best of times, but it’s still on time and not extremely close to the due date. </p>

<p>The trouble with the mailing I believe was with the documents that my guidance counselor sent, but those were also before the Dec. deadline. My counselor was even stressing how she went out the morning before the last day and express mailed and had it postmarked before Dec 1. That was most likely/obviously the start of the problem, whether the mail just never got there or got lost, which is understandable. But we called them multiple times afterwards and it should have been fine. </p>

<p>Hopefully my counselor wrote down all the contact info from our calls, which I believe she did. Though I must now wait till tomorrow I’m thinking, as today is Easter.

<p>The problem I am reading here is that UT’s deadlines are “received by” deadlines, not postmarked deadlines. So a transcript or whatever your GC had to send in that would have made your application complete, if it was postmarked by Dec 1,
It would have been late. It would have had to have been date stamped by UT’s mail room on Dec 1 to be considered on time. So if it was mailed in Dec 1, it would have been date stamped Dec 2. So bottom line, it was late and your app was cancelled because of it.</p>

<p>The above poster is correct. If your counselor sent it the day before the deadline it’s likely that it didn’t make the deadline, even if it was sent express (isn’t express 2 days guaranteed?)</p>

<p>However I don’t see why someone at UT would tell you that you’re alright then allow this to happen to you. Talk to your GC TOMORROW if possible. I would recommend going through her (assuming she’s competent) before you start trying to deal with UT directly. </p>

<p>Given the fact that your UT status said Complete - On Time, and you received verbal confirmation from someone at UT, I think you will be able to make it work. Like I said though, your GC is your best bet.</p>

<p>Yeah, I figured that the postmarking was an issue. And of course that’d be fine if I was late because of that, if I never called them and had confirmation of it being acceptable I guess.</p>

<p>Today in school I will talk to my counselor and see if we can sort this out. I fear that it’s as they say though and their “spaces have been filled” so either way… </p>

<p>Thanks again. Yeah, I have other backups. I’m hoping there’s still a chance for UT though as it’s not really only the college that interests me there, just going to and living in Austin as a whole is something I was hoping to do.</p>

<p>Well, we called them today. The result is that I should write an appeal. </p>

<p>Any suggestions on what/how I do that? </p>

<p>Not sure really what to do, as I wasn’t exactly rejected, my appeal is not sending new info or asking for re-consideration. They have all my documents and my application, so I suppose my appeal would be based more on me apologizing for causing this issue by not having sent my transcript (we figured out that was the issue, something about my counselor not sending an official one the first time) at a much earlier time so that problems could have been solved earlier?</p>

<p>The fact that your GC did not send an official transcript literally blows my mind. To say that is 100% unacceptable is an understatement. That is what I would base my appeal on. You applied on time. Your GC screwed this up. I wouldn’t be afraid to say so.</p>

<p>Eh, I wrote my appeal letter in which I apologized for the situation - bringing up Hurricane Sandy as a reason (not an excuse of course, just a factor) for the transcript ending up late - and asked for reconsideration of my application as UT is where I wish to go. </p>

<p>I am thinking though I want to be 100% sure that I would mail this letter the same address as my application. But I suppose I will hold off and give them a call tomorrow to ask how I should file my appeal? Just to make sure.</p>

<p>I was in a similar situation when they informed me that my application was late. They processed my application late and as a result found some information missing. It was due to their problem but I was asked to appeal. They had given me a Fax number to send in my appeal letter. My problem was resolved the same day.</p>
