I’m currently a freshman and I’m taking Algebra 2, but I have not taken Geometry yet. I was wondering if it is possible to take it over the summer (so I can take Pre-Calc in 10th grade, Calc in 11th, and something else [any recommendations?] in 12th) and I’m trying to reach out to the school I’m transferring to to see if they will accept the credit. I was just wondering what are some good online programs with a reasonable price? Like, I saw one from some prestigious college that was $8000 for 8 weeks and that’s way too much.
What state do you live in? If you live in Texas, I suggest try UT High School. It’ll cost you $450.00 but it’s a good program. They even have a demo course so you can see how it’s like on the website: https://highschool.utexas.edu/hs_courses
You’re already a year ahead and will finish high school with calculus. I wouldn’t take geometry over the summer, unless you’re really, really sure that there’s a class you can take (and want to take!) senior year.
@chanoo2003 I’m in Vermont, so know any good ones here?
@awesomepolyglot I’m actually not sure what math class I would take as a senior, do you have any recommendations? And if all else fails, I’ll just take Geometry next year (I just really wanted to take Pre Calc next year)
I don’t have any recommendations, as I don’t know what opportunities are available to you.
@awesomepilyglot would taking pre calc next year, AP Statistics junior year, and AP Calculus BC senior year be ridiculous? Should I take normal Caculus before AP Calc BC?
My son took JHU/CTY Honors Geometry online last summer. It was not easy but he learned a lot. They provided a transcript with a final grade so he could get credit from his high school. The head of the high school math department was the one who recommended the class. It used the same book as the high school geometry class.
My suggestion would be to call or email the head of the math department where you are transferring. Ask them for a recommendation and how their credit / approval process works.
If you do well in Precalc you should speak to your math teacher and ask whether they recommend taking AB or BC Calc next. If you want to go directly to BC, you may want to see whether your new school offers an honors precalc class you can take.
I would suggest you take Calc junior year (if the Geometry and Precalc work out). You can take Stats or another math Senior year but taking calc early gives you more options in terms of advanced science classes you may want to take.
@HMom16 okay, thanks for the advice!
