Only 3 Years of Math

I'm only going to take 3 years of math, bur I'm taking AP Calculus BC this year as a junior, the highest possible course at our HS. If I don't take math next year, will this hurt my chances?

I’m also taking AP stats this year, so maybe that would count as 4 years of math?

Try to take a more advanced course at a local community college… 3 years of math wont necessarilt kill you, but compared to many other overachievers who finished AP Calc BC junior year and then went on to linear algebra/multivariable calculus, you would be at a disadvantage. Not taking higher level math classes doesnt necessarily mean you are slacking off though

I only went up to BC until junior year because that is the furthest math my school offers. I have been accepted to the University of Chicago so far, so I doubt that the lack of a math course my senior year has had any major repercussions.

It really isn’t so much about the number of years as it is about the level of preparation. Doing well in Calc BC and on the AP exam shows that you are fully capable to taking on college level coursework. I definitely believe it will be looked upon more favorably than someone who took 4 years of math and only got up to pre-calc.

Wait, so basically by the end of junior year, you’ll have taken 4 math classes, within three years? If so, I think you’re set. If you’re majoring in mathematics, engineering, or something related, if you have the time, you could take an advanced course at a community college.
