Will T20s hold it against me if I am only taking one AP junior year? Despite this, I am still taking a rigorous schedule. For example, as AP Physics 1 is not offered, I am taking Honors Physics. I am not at the level of AP language (senior year) or AP Calc BC (Honors Precalculus instead). No APs are offered for English, and I am also taking a selective research class that required an application. This is basically the most rigorous schedule I could have taken while taking Physics. I plan on self-studying a couple more APs junior year and taking 3-4 senior year.
You can’t take what is not offered and every college knows that. Self studying is not needed for admissions.
The person to ask is your guidance counselor, not any one of us. Rigor is relative to what is offered in your HS. The top tier colleges will want to see the guidance counselor check the box on the recommendation saying you have taken the most rigorous course-load available at your HS (which doesn’t mean taking every AP class – there is often some latitude in this). If the guidance counselor says that your prior and current HS schedules are sufficient to get that most rigorous box checked then you are fine.
And instead of self-studying for APs IMO your time would be better spend doing as well as you can in the classes you are taking and making meaningful contributions with your ECs.
