Yeah, not so good. I signed up for AP US History and AP Chemistry (we can choose APUSH, AP Chem, or AP Government and Politics for next year), but because of some odd circumstances, all sophomores were barred from taking AP Chemistry for next year. This is the only year that this will happen (my school is changing the order in which the grades take the sciences, so it has screwed up the schedule). Now, I've replaced AP Chemistry with Honors Anatomy and Physiology, since AP Gov't isn't really something that interests me. Thing is, isn't this going to severly handicap me when it comes to applying to colleges? Most colleges hope to see a bit more than just one AP a student's junior year, no? What can I do? I feel like I'm being cheated here! Should I take AP Gov't just for the sake of having another AP? My mom is trying to fight to get me into AP Chem, but of course that's going nowhere fast.

…I’d go ahead and take that AP Gov’t. Even if you’re not really interested in it, colleges still want to see that you took on a challenging courseload. And almost everybody takes AP Gov’t. If you do well on the AP test, you might be able to use the credit somewhere, as well.

Pity about AP Chem, but if I were you I’d go ahead and take AP Gov’t because it makes your courseload more challenging. I’m not really interested in math/science either (in fact I detest math severely and am planning to major in History), but I took AP Calc BC junior year because I wanted to show them I was capable of handling a heavy courseload and even in areas where I wasn’t interested. Sometimes we got to take classes that we’re not necessarily interested in, ya know? And yes, most colleges usually want to see more than 1 AP during your junior year.

I took one AP junior year and I managed to get into college…my schedule had honors classes instead. Pick a challenging schedule, but don’t just pick it because it has AP in the title.

Maybe you can do a class over the summer? I took another AP class the summer after junior year, so technically I have two AP classes for junior year.

And not everyone takes AP Gov’t…my school doesn’t even offer it.

my school offers a lot of honors, and a handful of APs, most of which can only be taken senior year. i’m sure colleges will take this into consideration, but if not, you can always take the honors level course, and self-study or get extra help from your teacher for the AP test to prove your interest.

I only took one AP junior year, and I got in to 9 colleges (I applied to 11), including WUSTL and CMU. So no, only one AP won’t make it impossible to get in to college.

…At the same time, I understand wanting to take more. Perhaps take a class over the summer, or keep fighting with the administration.
