Reposting this question here (with a few edits) due to a tip...I hope that's allowed.

I was just wondering about what you guys (and colleges) think about taking no AP's in Junior year. All the AP's that are offered to me at this moment do not interest me, and honestly I'd rather put effort into an AP class where, whether I succeed or fail, I'd enjoy learning the material. I am taking 2 honors classes next year, and I have not taken an AP before.
AP's that are available are APUSH (my junior friends have been coming out crying from that class...I don't like us history enough to let it take away my sanity and I don't think my grade would end up too good), APLAC (I struggle a lot with writing in general), AP chem (never going back to chem), and AP bio (can only take one science, and I chose physics honors).

Schools I'm kinda interested in are NYU, Cal Poly, New York Institute of Technology, Rochester Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute?, Syracuse, UCSD?, Boston University, or Illinois Institute of Technology. I don't care too much...somewhere I'm getting a good learning experience.

As for the APs I want to take, AP Stat, Calc BC, AP Gov, Lit, and Physics are only available to me as a senior.
WHAP, MEHAP, Environmental Science, Micro/Macroeconomics, and Psychology are not offered. I actually would be more than happy to take the community college courses or some sort of online course during the school year (or self study, though that doesn't seem as interesting). So, how would colleges perceive these options?

I mean, if you aren’t taking the most rigorous courses available to you, colleges will probably look down on that. However, if you include an explanation, the schools may see it in a different light. Admitedly (sp?), the schools you are looking at don’t necessarily require the absolute most rigorous schedule available so you will probably end up getting in to many of those schools no matter what schedule you pick.

It would make the tough UCs (like SD and even Cal Poly hard now). A full slate of CC classes would help, but many colleges are programed to first look at what you took at your HS and your counselor ranks you by what you took.

Honestly, I think it will make it harder having absolutely NO aps junior year, though it depends on how many your school offers. The thing is, there will be other juniors applying to these colleges with stats similar to yours BUT they will have taken some APs.
On the other hand, life is not all about getting into a certain college. Do what you will enjoy, but risking maybe one AP class would not be a bad thing. You may end up liking it =)
My teacher in AP US History also made some people cry/most people hated that class but I ended up loving it. It really depends on you.

Can you try to waiver in something like AP stats? At my kid’s school, you can take it from 10th grade on and it is not that popular so there is probably room. Also it is doesn’t require any prior courses-good stand alone course. I would also take AP Biology Junior year and then take Honors Physics senior year. Junior year is very important on college applications.
