Hi,
I haven’t seen any conclusive information online about how an Ontario report card translates to the states, and thought I’d come here for help:
-What American universities did you get in to/rejected from with what average?
-How well does a 92 average fair against a 4.0 gpa?
-What would be the ballpark cutoff of a top Ivy League school?
Thanks in advance!
That’s because each college does it its own way, and most will not tell you how they do it.
Fare, not fair, and it depends on the university.
There isn’t one, and you should also assume that all top schools are well aware that grade deflation exists in Canadian HS’s.
Unlike most Canadian schools US schools use holistic admissions. From your screen name a 92 would not keep you out of Cornell but they also look at SAT/ACT scores, EC’s, letters of rec, essays etc.
@Tom Cool thanks for the tip!
Fare point I’ll bare that in mind
D16 had an Ontario 93 average and got rejected from MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Harvey Mudd, Stanford, USC and NYU. D16 is a US citizen too. She had one admission - to Santa Clara U. Except for one other student, all the other students in her high school who applied to US universities had all of their applications denied. The one outlier had a high 90’s average, had an international award and got admitted to HYPMS…
If you are applying for STEM, I’d highly recommend taking functions and one more grade 12 course before grade 12 so that you can write math 2 and one more SAT subject test in time for applications. .
