OOS admission tips?

Anyone know what admission clerks look at for a OOS applicant. Do they emphise more on GPA(that what they 2/3 look on state applicants I think).

PSU claims to be ‘residence-blind’ in admission policies. Must be tempting though to get those OOS tuition dollars!

I tend to agree with cbd. In these perilous economic days, the higher income from OOSers may well be too tempting to easily dismiss.

Uh… I just want to know how PSU-University Park how do they admit people. Do they look more at the GPA , than the test scores.

Someone chance me here.?
My gpa is about a 3.55(est , could be higher)

ACT(score “retesting” in June)

Ecs: Cross Country(2006-Fall 2009)

Work: Plan to look for some.

The reality of PSU with all the many thousands of admissions applications they receive every year is this:

They care about G.P.A. (core requirements only, they don’t give a darn what you got in gym or music)

They will look at SAT/ACT (take the writing) if the G.P.A. puts you in the ballpark of admits.

EC’s. They don’t care unless a coach at PSU supports your application.

Essays. IIRC, they don’t even have an essay.

If you GPA is like a 3.6 +, but your ACT/SAT score well is sort of bad. Whats the outcome for admission.

bmsa91- Their own website (do a bit of research!) states 2/3 on GPA and 1/3 on test scores and ‘other factors’. Your 3.5 or 3.6 ‘may’ cut it, maybe not. Depends on major, SAT/ACT scores, strength of schedule (if borderline). You JUST WON"T KNOW until possibly next year January 31 or so. Sorry, but you are just going to have to try hard, get your SAT scores up, and apply, wait and hope. No one will be able to predict for you with any sort of accuracy or guarantee. And THIS or past years results are no real predictor of next year. One thing, as I have said before is OOS ‘should’ make no difference. My slight ‘gut’ tells me that if you are on the fence, in this economy, it may have a slight edge, but only if you are on the cusp of admit/no-admit.

You have many months to go back and look at stats of ppl from class of 2013 and see who got in, who didn’t and then try to see where you fall. If you are trying for engineering or business, I’d think your GPA is low, but you just never know.

Make sure you have some safeties!
