OOS Chances? (Berkeley, UCLA, USC)

The difference is not necessarily meaningful in any way, actually. Unless we can separate the groups and see in-state applicants and OOS applicants discretely and compare, we can't say what the difference actually is.

clearly we are all missing the point that usc won the rose bowl today, and is therefore the better institution.

It doesn't matter. UCLA and Cal still got money out of it. They're the smarter institutions for free riding. ;)

but seriously, there's not that much of a difference between the quality of education that you get at usc, ucb, and ucla. it's all a matter of where you fit. usc is arguably the least selective, yet it is my first choice of the three.

I think that as an undergrad, you really aren't going to see a huge difference unless you decide to get into hardcore undergrad research, where the differences may start becoming more pronounced. In that case, I think the UCs have a slight edge, but molliebatmit is the better judge of that...

Berkeley: slight reach
UCLA: high match
USC: match

^^do you realize he is OOS?

It it not wise to not agree with UCLAri... your posts will disappear. He is now a moderator. :)

Yep. Posts are just disappearing left and right with me around. It's the vanishing post craze of the 21st century!

USC: match
UCLA: slight reach/reach
UCB: reach

UCLA average admit GPA: 4.26
Berkeley average admit GPA: 4.26

Seems pretty similar to me.

According to http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp the average freshman at Berkeley has a 4.26. Not admit, but freshman, meaning they matriculated. I read a while back that Cal's average GPA for admits was 4.33 (no source to back that up, but it's likely), which makes sense if you assume that most of those who turned down Berkeley were those with higher stats and got into Stanford or other similar private schools.

So it's:
ADMITS - AVG. GPA
Cal - 4.33 (this was for 2005)
UCLA - 4.26

I stand corrected.

UCB: safety
USC: touchback
UCLA: 2pt conversion
