OOS Chances?

Hello everyone, I would like to go to UF. I am a junior in a blue ribbon private school and I’m a asian. My GPA is a 3.6 and Act is 31. I am from Kentucky and want to major in Internal Medicine. I am in Chess club, service club and track. I also own a graphic design company, a LLC. What are my chances? Is going to UF hard? Can having a small company make me stand out? Thanks!

Hi, I recommend you look at the other “chances” threads in this forum, as lot of info has already been shared. Your stats look to be inline with UF’s target. They do use holistic admissions, so please read those other threads. Keep in mind that it’s not a disadvantage to be OOS, but UF offers limited OOS merit aid. UF also weights it’s GPA (see below for the middle 50% range), giving an extra 0.5 points for honor classes, and +1.0 points for AP/Duel Enrollment/IB/AICE classes (and they only use academic classes).

Also, at UF you apply to the university and not to a college (like engineering or business) as a freshman. You’ll be able to pick any major (with the exception of a very few limited access programs, like Bio medical Engineering), so pick any major that would fit your goal as pre-med. It will not impact your chances at admission. It’s also fairly simple to switch majors as a freshman/sophomore, so don’t stress out to much when picking your major (when applying).

Good Luck!

FYI: as a junior, you should also try to keep your GPA high (it’s very important at UF, more so that your test scores), and keep up on your EC’s, but that’s advise that would work for almost any University.

well, do they look at GPA yearly or semester base?

You enter your grades into the SSAR by semesters, and that’s how they calculate your GPA. However, note item number 3 below…

Is final grade like year base or what? I am new to this.

It will be on your high school transcript, which you’ll request(from your high school) before filling out the SSAR. or, look at your report card from last year, did it have a final grade for your classes?

I think I did.
