Do I have any OOS chance?

Hi all, I am a junior from Georgia, and when I was looking at schools, I really liked UF. My parents, however, were skeptical that I would even get in, so I would like a second opinion. My dad also got a job in Florida, so if he stays, I plan to petition for instate tuition.

General Comments: I don’t know my senior schedule because I am planning to apply for dual enrollment, but the application isn’t released until later. Also, I know that UF can have varied admissions and these posts don’t really accomplish that much, but any feedback would be nice. Also, what is the social life at UF? Thank you all!

You have better stats than I did and I was accepted. Just write a great essay and you should get in. I’m also an OOS student and I’m getting instate tuition because my Dad lives in Florida. If you want to get instate tuition your Dad must claim you on his most recent tax return and prove he is a Florida citizen for at least 1 year before the beginning of your freshman year. So, he should get a Florida license, register his vehicle in Florida, get a Florida voter registration, have proof that he has lived there for a year, and there are other things somewhere on the website he could use to prove it. The more evidence you have, the easier their decisions will be in granting you instate tuition.

I think you will get in. Here is the statute that defines determining residency within the state.

Essentially, if one of your parents gets Florida residency 12 months before you enroll, you have instate tuition. Have your father read this, and follow the requirements ASAP. If your mother retains Georgia residency, and your father gets Florida residency, you will be in great shape when it comes to apply to college. Having the choice between UF, GT and UGA instate will give you some very good and cost effective options.

There are no guarantees. UF has rejected students with your stats before. Just write a really good essay and demonstrate lots of interest.
