OOS Financial Aid - Grants being phased out...?

So I keep hearing that the UC’s are all phasing out their grants to OOS students. I got accepted to UCSD and got no grants, but yesterday I was accepted to UCLA and I am receiving some grants specifically for being an OOS student. Is this wrong? Or have I been accepted just before they started phasing out the grants (and if so, will I continue to receive grants over the next four years or say next year, all of the grants are suddenly gone)?

Edit: also, for those who have already went through this process last year, how much difference was there between the estimate they gave you in your portal and your actual financial aid? I hope it doesn’t change much for most people.

From what I’ve seen here on CC, OOS students can receive academic or merit based scholarships (such as Regents or Alumni scholarships), but not financial aid based on need. Hope this helps at all!

I’m instate and also wondering what the difference between the estimate you’re given and what you actually receive tends to be.

I got the OOS scholarship money too. Apparently it comes from special donations and fundraising. That said, by policy it cannot cover the OOS supplement, which means that UCLA is $18K more expensive than anywhere else I applied.
