Hey everyone! I'm a junior and the UW is one of my top schools. However, i am trying to figure out how to afford it out of state. My brother will be a senior next year and then he is going to grad school. I have a twin as well so it is definitely hard for my dad to try and pay for all of these college costs. He said he has around $80,000 saved ( he said a couple more would probably be doable, middle class fam)and that will only cover about 2 years at the UW. I really don'w want to transfer. What experiences do any out of stater's have with financial aid at the UW? Thanks so much!

The UW does not provide out of state financial aid.

You may still qualify for federal funds based on need, such as the pell grant

Thanks travel girl! On college board and in Princeton review the books say the average package is $15,000. Is that just for instate or all students?

Hi, try this tool – [Student Office of Financial Aid](<a href=“Student Financial Aid”>Student Financial Aid)

Thanks U.W. Student!

The $15,000 is for in-state and those not living at home.

Definitely complete the FAFSA.

For out-state and international students, the expense can be 2.5 to 3 times of that for in-state students. Consider applying for scholarships that are state-blind. If you are in engineering, check [UW Engineering - Engineering Scholarships | www.engr.washington.edu](Tuition and scholarships | UW College of Engineering)

Also check external scholarships (I got one that helped me to pay $1000), which sometimes can be found on [theWashBoard.org | Login](<a href=“theWashBoard.org | Login”>theWashBoard.org | Login)

If you don’t like essays or things of that kind, there are some safe scholarship drawings sites, such as [Join ScholarshipPoints | ScholarshipPoints.com](<a href=“Enter to Win $2,500 | ScholarshipPoints”>Enter to Win $2,500 | ScholarshipPoints) and https://**************.com/scholarship/apply.aspx
Of course, the chance to get these kinds of scholarships are small.

One thing to note is that to save dining on campus, try finding club activities with free food. There are almost always events with free food everyday at UW, which may save you some money. Also watch for paid research help opportunities for some cash for your living expense. The more you save, the less you need from financial aids.

It’s pathetic how College Confidential blocks out the names of their competitors. You’ll have to repost that link with spaces or something.

Thank you, U.W. Student. The star thing should be college ******* without space. Well, the chance is very very small, but I know some people grab any chance.

Thanks z1627384950! I couldn’t do the engineering because I’m planning on doing some sort of communications, but the other links are helpful.

Consider joining the Daily team - the newspaper most common around the campus. After one quarter of training, if you are hired, you get paid. Of course, generally all work can be done on campus.
