OOS Financial Aid

Hi Guys!

I live in Florida and my family income is about 65k...does UNC-CH give good financial aid for OOS?

Sorry if my question is stupid but I'm new to the board...thanks for everything in advance!

P.S. i have a 3.5 UW GPA and 32 ACT with decent ECs...merit aid maybe? or maybe not? lol.

Thanks again!

Not sure about need based aid, but it is extremely unlikely you would receive merit aid with only a 32 ACT unless you have some amazing EC’s.

FA at UNC is primarily need based. That said, they do however offer a number of merit awards that have nothing to do with need.

[The Office of Scholarships & Student Aid at UNC-Chapel Hill](http://studentaid.unc.edu/studentaid/type/ssa_scholarships.html)

With family income of 65K I am guessing that you should receive some need based aid at most schools including UNC.

I would have to agree with Ryan that unless you aren’t telling the whole story, a 3.5/32 ACT probably isn’t going to be competitive enough on their own for a merit award at UNC. That should not keep you from applying though because no one outside the FA offices knows exactly how they determine who gets the awards.

Have you looked at the Univ of South Carolina? Your stats would probably qualify you for a named merit award which also adds tuition being reduced to in state levels. it makes the cost of attendance very low and is a real up and comer school.

Without knowing your full stats. OOS with a 3.5 uw GPA is very unlikely to be accepted at UNC-CH. (regardless of FA).

You may want to search this forum for OOS “chances”.

I do not think UNC is known for OOS non-merit based aid, but given the requirements needed for OOS admissions I would imagine that most OOS students come with the ability to qualify for at least some merit based aid from other sources.
