OOS Legacy chances for UVA -- will chance back

I am oos (NY) and my dad went to UVA on scholarship…
SAT: 1410
APs: Chem, Physics, English, Bio, Psychology, Euro, Calculus
GPA unweighted: 3.8 ish
Extracurriculars: 6 years of varsity tennis, 2 years of varsity track, coach for special needs sports, summer job lifeguarding, yearbook club, etc.

Chances??

I think you’ll have a shot - your SAT and UWGPA are very good - but given the sheer volume of strong OOS applicants (including OOS legacy applicants) you will want to do your best work on the application (essays, etc.) to give yourself the best possible odds of acceptance. Others may disagree, but I think legacy status is not as much of a hook/boost as it may have been in the past.

Be sure to apply to a couple of safety schools, including schools that will give you in-state tuition and/or academic recruiting scholarships. (Depending on your financial situation.)

OOS is very competitive for UVA. You’re borderline at best.

Talk to the legacy admission advisor folks at the UVA alumni association. That’s exactly what they are there for. They do a great job and their feedback will be useful to you for UVA as well as other colleges.
