OOS merit-based aid

cmon, just post her scores.

what exactly is OOS?

Out Of State - People that don't live in Michigan.

i only got 3500 in loans a year in need-based aid as well

3500 as well ...sadly this may be the reason i wont be attending

I'm out of state too. I got my estimated financial aid package. I got about 8200 in fed grants, 16300 in Michigan grant, 6600 in fed loans, and 3000 in work-study. So I guess I have to work for umich during the year now. In total, i to pay about 9000 per term and 18000 per year.

I am very inexperience with fin aid, so I want to know if there is still more grants/loans/scholarships to come.

Also how good are others' packages? Because i don't know if mine is good or not especially b/c out of staters get ridiculously bad fin aid packages.

I'm OOS. I got $3,500 per year in unsubsidized loans, which means that interest accumulates as soon as I take it out. So I have to pay approximately 43k per year, since I probably won't accept the loan. I'd say you got one heckuva deal.

jenny, Didn't you get some merit aid as well?

Same here. And it is after several letters in four monthes urgent my kid to write an essay to apply the honor program. The kid was among the earliest to be accepted has excellent stats (the validation of another EAed school). .... Kind feel let down, really.

^^^agreed. I wasn't accepting a huge grant or anything, but I can't feel as if they just loaned me that minute amount to get me out of the way.

Got a 20K OOS merit scholly somewhere between the time I heard from LSA and Ross (March I think?). My profile in a nutshell: 2250, top 5 boarding school, mediocre GPA, monster load of AP 5's, econ awards, ok ec's (sports/internships), minority (though that prob doesn't help anymore).

jnpn, did you file seperate merit scholarship form?

I don't think so. It was two years ago, so I don't remember very well. I think all I did was check off that I would like to be considered for scholarships on my application.

D is OOS. She has been offered a 80k LSA Scholarship and nominated for an 80k Shipman Scholarship--both are merit scholarships. It seems to me that UM is very serious about getting some very good out of state students.

my aren't you a proud parent...

"watchthis," what are your daughter's stats?

Proud? I guess--although I am not the one they are interested in--and don't think I deserve much credit--if any. She is the one who did what put her in this position.

The point is that UM can be very "agressive" in seeking some OOS students. (I am not sure why they need to be that "agressive," but I suspect they would have a pretty reasonable sounding explanation.)

Stats? I am pretty sure she wouldn't want them posted. They are extremely good--nearly "perfect," and her letters were insanely good.

throwing money at me is one type of "aggression" I can deal with.

watchthis,

Congratulations to you and your D!
