OOS- Purple and Gold Scholarship?

So I’m aware of what the Purple and Gold Scholarship is, but I was wondering how students are informed that they have received it? Does it usually come in the gold letter with your acceptance, or are students notified later in some other packet that is sent? Thank you!

From what I understand, the acceptance letter comes first in the mail in the golden envelope which just let’s you know you go in. Then you get a packet that will include financial aid information which would include this scholarship.

Do you have to apply for the Purple and Gold Scholarship?

@Homeless2Harvard‌ Awesome, thanks!

@emilym96‌ Nope, they consider you for it while they look at your application.

It is my understanding all OOS are considered but I cannot find any information on qualifications. Can anyone provide further insight what measurement is used.

@studywiki‌ If you have a 3.0-3.4 GPA, and I believe at least a 1100 CR + M SAT score (don’t know how this translates with ACT), you are considered for the Purple scholarship. If you have a 3.5+ GPA and at least a 1200 CR + M SAT score, then you are considered for a Gold scholarship. Not all OOS receive this of course, I believe I’ve read somewhere that 1/3-1/2 receive some form of this scholarship that varied from $4,000 to $9,000 last year (and is different each year from what I have heard). So the higher the test scores and the higher the GPA you have of the accepted OOS students, then the higher the chance you can receive this scholarship. Hope this helps!

ferdinard32 thank you for the insight. Do you know if it is need base is taken into consideration or just merit. Looking at posts last year the students who received varied and a clear cut rule was not defined but since I 2014 was the first year they offered it, I am hopeful they have worked a few things out.
Also do you know if they match or would take into other merit scholarships from other public colleges?

@studywiki‌ I believe need base is not taken into consideration. My older sibling received $9000 or $9500 as an OOS admit through Purple & Gold, even though we come from an income bracket of over 250k. IIRC, about 1/2 of all OOS students receive the scholarship.

@studywiki‌ Basically what @EmpyreanDweller‌ said. Need is not considered, and I don’t think they really consider anything else except your stats :slight_smile:

My OOS D received her gold envelope today that included the purple and gold scholarship offer in the letter.

@Madison07 if you dont mind me asking which state? and how much was offered?

@Madison07‌ Are you guys in Oregon? And thank you so much for letting me know!

Oops looks like I was wrong! Sorry. Apparently notification comes with the first envelope

@Homeless2Harvard‌ No worries!

@Madison07 did your scholarship information load into the financial page yet? Also does your daughter fall into the category that ferdinard32 mentions above with strictly merit not need and the gpa ranges?

Yes, we are in Oregon. It was for $7,500 which appears to be based on GPA/stats. (Her GPA is 4.0 UW/4.3 W but ACT is 30. Evidently range is $4,000-$9000ish range? We aren’t expecting much if any need-based aid. And no, there is no update at all on the UW page - it does not even show acceptance yet.

@Madison07 thank you for the information. I know we will probably not be offered aid and being OOS this scholarship could be the difference between going or not going.
We have been accepted but hopefully the golden envelope will have the information we are looking for.

@studywiki - I hope you receive the purple & gold scholarship also. We are in the same boat, and OOS tuition is pretty difficult to justify. Good luck!

I just recieved my letter of admission and I live in Massachusetts. I got $6,500 each year!
