OOS RD Chances...

Yes, I understand that it's another one of these, but I would really appreciate some input, to gauge my chances after having received a less-than-savory deferral from my first-choice school.

I understand it's difficult to get in as an out of stater, so be brutally realistic. What are my chances?

You forgot "Co-president of NHS".

:P

Oh, right. I forgot that. Mysteryflavored is right. I am co-president of my high school's National Honors Society.

great shot for OOS, especially with your rank/GPA and SATs...just write some great essays and I think you're a very very stron candidate...just remember, your are OOS so no guarentees

GREAT chance (aka I'd be surprised if you didnt get in), but there's always a chance that you won't because OOS is unpredictable!

Good luck!!

Nobody here can tell you your chances but they can tell you what you can do to improve your application.

You did well on the SATs
You have a great GPA
You have e/cs

Just put a lot of work into the essays. When I called the admissions office once they kept stressing essays even if I asked them another question.

You have an excellent shot at getting in during the RD round. You'll also have a number of other superb options, so please consider UVA in april.

Much thanks to everyone who replied. UVA will definitely be on my relatively short list of colleges (though I'm sorry to admit that it isn't at the top... yet).

What school deferred you? They are missing out.

Harvard was my first choice. So they're not really missing out per se, what with the whole endless supply of wonderfully qualified applicants. Still, I appreciate the compliment.

All the same, still pretty disappointing for me. Oh well, it will all work out, I'm sure, either at UVA or one of my other choices.

Don't get freaked out when you get a thin envelop from them. The first one is a likely letter which just complements your accomplishments. The second one is from Echols which formally accepts you into the program. The big envolp won't come until a week or so later.

Harvard missed out on my D last year as well. LOL.

what other schools are you applying to?
