My d13 has a strong interest in UNC. We are out of state. She will not be a recruited athlete. Are there any lists of admitted stats for this group? I know how to pull up the Common Data set but this does not give a good idea of OOS admits. We were curious if it is a waste of time/money to apply. Her stats are 4.6 GPA, 1470 SAT (only taken once will try again), strong EC's - State level athlete with captain status and many leadership things at school and outside of school.

I’m assuming that 1470 SAT is only math and reading because that does not line up with a 4.6 gpa otherwise. If that is all three sections, she NEEDS to take it again. That’s not an acceptable score for even IS students. OOS admissions is a crapshoot and stats are definitely not the end all be all for admissions. Lots of leadership is a good thing, but essays are probably the most important thing for distinguishing between the high scoring and achieving OOS students who will be accepted and those who will not.

Thanks for the response - that is helpful to have her concentrate on her essays. Yes 1470 is her Math and CR only - total was 2150. She took it in October of her Junior year so she thinks it will go up when she takes it again. No prep - just went in and took it.

Reality Check Here -

Our neighbor girl just finished her freshman year at Notre Dame. She had a 35 ACT and received only one B in all four years of HS with all honors and AP. (A 5.6 on a 5 scale) Accepted with scholarships to Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Northwestern - she was rejected by UNC.

Even for the best OOS student, UNC is lottery ticket given the 82/18 rule.
