Hi, I'm an OOS resident and i'm gonna try hard to get in state tuition. i just need to get independence and make sufficient $$$ then take the driver's test in cali?

does living in cali when i was in elem school and having most of my relatives live in cali affect it?

honestly, i don't think it's worth it. all the effort and price of living here will end up outweighing tuition. plus, i don't know if the state allows living on a college campus to count as residency. i was visiting another state this year, and it didn't work there. i could be wrong though, you should check.

i'm thinking about going to a uc grad school, so i believe that it'll be worth the mess if grad school oos tuition is drastically higher than in state.

There have been loads of threads on this topic, and the conclusion to draw is that it's very hard to establish residency in California for in-state tuition. You have to actually live and work there for a year with an intent not simply to earn educational benefits.

Well one thing you haven't considered, dawritingmachine, is the relative ease that graduate students encounter when establishing residency. I've read on various professor and graduate school admissions sites regarding the cost of tuition and the idea of the 1-year rule.

to clarify, i'm an incoming freshman and i really want to stay in the UC system for grad school. therefore i want to get in state residency asap. the sooner, the less i pay overall. sry for the confusion.
