Essays - will put my heart and soul into them, should be good

I meet all the McIntire reqs except foreign language. Our B.S. program does not require foreign language.

Should I shoot for McIntire (that's where my heart is set) or would I fare better as Econ at CAS?

If you can’t satisfy the foreign language pre-requisite, then McIntire is not an option (pre-requisites must be met before you enter McIntire). I believe CAS also has a foreign language requirement, but you only need to complete before graduation.

Others, please correct me if I’m mistaken about any of this.

After admission, foreign language prerequisites may, with prior approval, be completed by transfer during the summer prior to enrollment, but must be completed before entering the School.

You don’t need prior approval and you don’t need to include your situation in your app. In fact I wouldn’t. It would only hurt you.

I placed out of foreign language requirements at my former school. After being accepted to McIntire I got a letter from our Dean of Student Services letting me know what I needed in order to enter McIntire. After a brief panic because I was going out of town for an internship opportunity for half the summer (thought I might have to take night classes at a local U), I took UVA’s Spanish placement test and scored high enough to place out completely. I submitted proof to the office and I was fine.

Just make plans to take summer classes. I know a fellow transfer who took an online class with a final during our transfer orientation. That’s how close he cut it.

If you are accepted you do need to keep McIntire in the loop as to how you will fulfill your language requirement and then proceed to complete that component in a timely manner. Any information you wish to share in your application is your decision. They will already see in the review of your application that it is not fulfilled. Your situation is different than KnightsO9 because it would have shown on his transfer transcript that he met the language requirements for his former alma mater. This would have been taken into consideration.

It did not say anything on my transcript about the language requirements. They just need to see proof that you’ve completed the courses by August. I’d plan to take summer classes, but don’t worry about anything in terms of contacting McIntire until you are accepted.

i got in and i havent taken any foreign languages. im OOS as well. although if I end up going and if they ask me about it i’ll take the hindi/urdu exemption test as im a native speaker and have writing/reading experience.
