OOS Tuition waiver/Merit Aid

Can anyone tell me if there is a tuition waiver or tuition reduction at CofC, and if so, what ACT/GPA combination would a student need to be awarded one? We did the NPC and with a 31 ACT, it came back with a merit award of only $8500, so am wondering if she should keep it on her list if there isn’t a chance she could get at least half of the COA. She took the ACT again this past weekend, so hoping her score went up at least a point, so that might help a little. For those who received a lot of merit aid, would you mind sharing stats? We are in Florida. Thank you!

@elcs76 is your daughter applying to the Honors College? That’s where the most lucrative merit comes from. I do believe that expecting half of the COA is a little lofty expectation for an OOS public . Many students instate don’t even get the cost down that low.

@carolinamom2boys I was hoping you would chime in, as you seem an active participant on this board and I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Yes, she will definitely apply to the Honors College and I had wrongly assumed with an ACT score higher than the 75th percentile, (last year’s 75th percentile was a 27) that the merit award may be a bit more than $8-10K.

Most of the merit comes from the Honors College. Merit awards at public institutions are not as generous as those in private colleges. I did have a friend whose daughter was offered 10,000 OOS. You may also want to look at departmental scholarships .
