OOS UNC-Chapel Hill

Hello CC people
As I’ve heard, UNC’s OOS admission is VERY competitive. UNC has been my dream school from freshman year.
Do you think as a Californian I would have a better shot at acceptance if I apply for EA?
I have a fairly good resume:
my overal GPA will be somewhere around 3.7-3.9(UW) and my weighted gpa will be +4.5.
I have gotten a 1480/1600 SAT and a 34 on the ACT.
I’m a certified nurse assistant and work at a senior center.
Have been prez of some clubs and blah blah…
+300 hrs of CS
Plz chance me or tell me if I should think about some less prestigious colleges.
Thank u!

Yes, apply EA.

Yes, think about applying to other colleges – and not just “prestigious” ones. First, even though you seem at first glance to be competitive for admission based on the information that you have provided, nothing is guaranteed in college admissions; so you need fall-back alternatives. Second, you need to seek a school that is right for you, and not be concerned about whether other people think the school you attend is “prestigious” (or even whether you think it is “prestigious”). Fit is a more important consideration than “prestige”; and as Frank Bruni has put it so well, it’s not where you start but where you end up that matters: https://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/15/opinion/sunday/frank-bruni-how-to-survive-the-college-admissions-madness.html?rref=collection%2Fcolumn%2Ffrank-bruni&_r=1

I got waitlisted then rejected first gen OOS w/ a 1470 SAT and 3.81 UW w/ sibling legacy. And that would be two years earlier when you apply so it will be even more competitive for you.
