Can someone give me some stats of ppl who got in UCLA as an OOS?

I'm applying as a freshmen undergrad... undeclared-humanities

I really like that school... spent 6 weeks there taking summer courses :)

usu. 3.9-4.0ish (UW non-UC) plus 2100 in-state is considered match. so stats above that would be ideal for OOSers.

then, there are the odd ones like me (OOS) and my OOS roomie who were 3.9-4.9uw range and 2000ish scorers. we both had lots of ECs/awards to make up for it though and i had a crazy courseload jr/sr yrs

goodluck

even if you don't have those stats, don't feel bad. i've gotten to know some OOStaters whose profiles aren't as great as you'd think...basically, almost anything can happen. wish you luck!

typo --- 4.0uw >.<

I was originally rejected from UCLA with a 95 UW GPA at a magnet school, 2160 SAT, 770 and 720 SAT IIs, president of mathclub, editor of sports section of paper, tutored homeless, worked full time for the army for 2 summers, nhs, bunch of other ecs.

Just from the other out of staters I've met at UCLA, it seems like most are either in the theatre school, or not from the Northeast. Maybe they don't think someone with high stats would choose UCLA over an Ivy if they aren't interested in theatre? Not sure, just a conjecture.

thanks for the inputs everyone :)

Dodgerblue, interesting point you brought up... it seems like you've got a reallyl strong record in and out of school..

which school are you at now?

emmeline, i was going to ask you about that :D

i thought it was just some scale i wasn't aware of...

I'm at UCLA now. I appealed and got in because I got a full scholarship from their ROTC unit who probably assumed I'd get in.

Congratulations!

I heard only 5% of the appeals actually get admitted. is that true?

i think there's a stats page listing this info....

For my 1st essay, "How have you been taking advantage of educational opportunities to prepare for college,"

I wrote of my experience of traveling to UCLA this summer from Pennsylvania to take some classes...

How will UCSD, UCI (other UC's) look upon that?

Also, I heard most of the OOS attending UCLA are from the west coast.. very close to california? Are there many that are from as far as Pennsylvania / New York?

They will look favorably upon it because you're taking college classes during your summer. (It doesn't matter which campus... you are still showing your ability to handle college work.)

It's hard to answer your second question... I have met people from Canada, Brazil, New York, Wisconsin, ... It doesn't matter too much since there are so very few OOS students in the first place. (Well 13% of the incoming class is OOS/Int'l. though the numbers are smaller for the other classes.)

^agree, i have met ppl from the east coast and many different countries actually.

I'm from NJ, and know a handful of other people from NJ. I know a few other east coasters, but we are definitely quite the minority.

This might help... http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/compreview/0308_meeting/appeals_matrix.pdf

It says for Fall 2003, around seven percent of freshman appeals were reversed for UCLA.

How long did it take for you to Google that?

a couple of seconds. it was just the first result that came up...nothing special. :)

I'm also from the east coast and I actually haven't met a lot of OOS students close to the west coast..

My suitemate is from Oregon..............
