@rittlette I posted this info snd I knew about it cause I am an information hound…lol. I just happen to subscribe to tons of college and theatre related pages as well as the schools FB pages. This came up on a FB page twice. FB is an annoyance but it keeps me informed I must admit. As for the open call sign up you may want to address that question to @VoiceTeacher or on that flyer there is contact info at the bottom
Sounds great. Wish they would run a similar event in Chicago so that we could get a second bite at the Shenandoah apple (failed pre-screen from previously favorite school–sad but getting over it).
As far as we know, this is the only open call of its kind. We are trying to start something new and hope that it will grow over the next few years. If you want the contact info, PM me. I don’t think I am allowed to post it in the forum via forum rules. If I am wrong, let me know.

My S has a friend who attended this audition last year (at the NY Unifieds) The boy was unaware that these 3 programs (there were 3 schools last year) were holding this type of call until he got to the Unifieds. They weren’t even on the Unified list. On the spur of the moment, he decided to do the audition even though he had not applied to any of the 3 schools. Well, long story short, all 3 schools expressed interest in this boy…and he is now a Freshman MT BFA student at one of the 3 schools.
I wonder if there is time for everyone to be seen. I would hate to make the arrangements for my D to attend without a confirmed appointment time. Am I just over-thinking this?
I feel the same way @BuckeyeBell. It’s nerve wracking! Also, just to make sure, my daughter is very interested in Texas State and they require a prescreen. Do we just not send it in and assume it will be ok when she shows up to the open call audition?
I think @VoiceTeacher 's post #13 in this thread will answer your questions. It is first come first served, so if you are late to the list, you won’t be able to audition once the slots are full. If you have not passed a prescreen you can still have this “second bite at the apple” if you get an open slot.
If it were me, I’d send in my prescreens and use this as a second chance if you need it. Because if you pass the prescreen you would be guaranteed an opportunity to audition on-campus or at Unifieds.
I may see this really differently than other people- but to ME, if you have gotten a “no” from a prescreen- unless you have made major changes, or felt your prescreen didn’t represent what you can do- I wouldn’t recommend going back for a second bite. To me- TWO no’s from the same school would be double painful.
If one of the schools on the list (or a couple of them- esp those with prescreens) are really high on your list - to me it would seem best to have a scheduled time. Maybe treat this like a fantastic walk-in opportunity… Full of possibilities, but no guarantees
^^^not me. Dust your boots off, leave your ego at the door and try again if it is a school you care that much about and they are willing to look at you again. This is a rare opportunity for a second shot. Worst thing that can happen is you get a second “no”. The net result of that is the same as the first “do not pass go, do not collect $200” answer. I guess don’t incur a whole lot of additional expense for it but it’s a group thing. It’s not just about one school.
The system is imperfect. My daughter’s year she attended an early thespian event in our state which sort of smacks of this sort of thing. She personally did fine but more notably was a young woman who got more callbacks than anyone and then didn’t pass the U Mich prescreen which was the next thing to come along and then the rejections just kept on coming until finally, late in the game, things turned around for her. I’ve lost track of her but she is at a top school (I think).
Didn’t finish my point. Meant to conclude by reiterating that one minute you can be up, and the next down. None of this needs to mean more than that in a slice of time. So yes… do it again if you have a chance. Why not?
Might as well start now with the “pick yourself up and onward to the next one” - or “go back to the last one and do it better this time”.
It just goes to show that there are lots of different thought process- and that’s fine- and applies to so many other aspects as well. Example: My kid was not a fan of walk ins - I sort of “forced” her into one in Chicago (and we didn’t even end up applying to the school) but I read all the time here about people having great success with them. A friend of hers ONLY did on campus auditions - others do all unified. Pick what works for you- and go for it

Any idea what time sign ups would begin @VoiceTeacher? Or what time doors would open? Worried that we would make the trip and then not get there in time to be seen.
