Early Shenandoah audition

Did anyone audition for MT there on Dec 3? Anyone heard yet?

Due to out of town faculty members and finals week things are a little behind. Info from the December 3rd auditions should be going out later this week or next. Sorry for the wait :(

Can you tell she realllly wants this school???
Signed,

Do you know, if it still stays “applied” as the status in SU Web Advisor, does that mean waitlisted, if kids are already finding out that they’ve been accepted, or not necessarily? As Tom Petty says, “The wayayting is the hardest part…” ;-)

She’s in!!! :-D

Great news, lalaimb!!

I am in the process of updating the CC list of schools that have an early/rolling admissions option. Does Shenandoah still offer an early audition option? When was the early audition this year (2013/14)?

The first audition for 2013/2014 was January 18th. They had four audition dates this season. I believe that the last one was February 22nd.

Yup, it was – we were there Feb. 22, and they made a bunch of offers immediately afterward like they had done after the prior audition dates.

So they make offers after each round of auditions? That seems odd to me; how do they know what level of talent is going to be coming in for later auditions? Is there an advantage, then, to auditioning early? @maMTma did your student get an offer? @lalaimb‌ how does your daughter like the program?

There are usually only 3-4 outright accepts after the first audition day and those go to students who are exceptional AND fit exactly what we are looking for. Remember we are trying to juggle a balance of dance, acting, and singing along with type and personality. Sometimes you know you don’t have a certain combination that you need and you act quickly when you meet that person. Our school also has a deadline for a major academic scholarship that coincides with that audition date. So if we meet someone we really like and we know they qualify for that scholarship, we will sometimes make an offer to make sure they are eligible.

Because of the prescreening, we do have some idea of the talent that is coming over the course of the next few weeks. So if we know that there is only one person of a certain type coming our way and we like that person, the decision can be made earlier rather than later.

It’s a complex process for students and faculty. If the student is confident with their material, I do think there is an advantage to auditioning early.

Thanks @VoiceTeacher, that makes a lot of sense. The pre-screening sounds like a great idea all around, and benefits everyone. Another question for you–can you give an estimate of how many guys and how many girls audition for SU’s MT program each year? And how many are accepted? I think I read 8-12 somewhere, but wasn’t sure if that was total or 8-12 each for guys and girls. Thank you!

Is January 24 (Unifieds) the first day for musical theatre auditions this year? The website states that earlier auditions are for music and/or dance.

We take 8-12 females and 8-12 males for a total class size of around 18-24. That means that sometimes we do have a few more women than men, but we try very hard to keep it balanced.

As far as the first audition day: the January 24th Unifieds date in NYC is the first.

And about how many girls and guys would you say audition on any given year? Just an estimate…
