Open Period in High School?

Hi! I am currently about to begin my senior year in high school. Since freshman year, I've been trying to take all the AP and honors classes I can take (our school won't let us take AP classes during freshman year). I am currently ranked third in my class and I have a 4.5 GPA as of my last semester of junior year. I've managed to take...

8th Grade:
Honors Algebra I

Freshman Year:
Honors Geometry
Honors English

Sophomore Year:
Honors Algebra II
Honors English
AP Physics B
AP World History

Junior Year: (Even though I signed up for 5 AP classes, my schedule only allowed 3.)
AP US History
AP English Lit
AP Calculus AB

Senior Year: (This is what my schedule is looking like for the upcoming year. They only gave me 3 AP classes.)
AP English Lang
AP Biology (Possibly as independent study since it won't fit in my schedule)
AP Music Theory
AP Government
...and I am going to try to take the AP Spanish Exam in May since I am bilingual.

Also I was wondering how my ACT scores are looking. I am a horrible standardized test taker...
I've taken the ACT twice and I've received a 30 both times.
The last ACT I took really screwed me over in the reading portion...
English - 34
Math - 33
Science - 32
Reading - 23 (Unfortunately, I cannot comprehend the passages as quickly as I should be able to...and I did not gauge myself with time.) But I am definitely planning on taking it again.

The thing that I am most worried about is that I have an open period during 7th period which means I don't have a class and I have early dismissal. I am stressing out over the chance that this won't look good on my college application. I am planning on applying to schools like the University of Chicago and Michigan.
So my question is with the classes I am taking, would an open period really jeopardize my college chances? Should I fill it with a class I am not interested in like Sports Medicine? Or should I just keep it? Thanks so much! I appreciate it!

Take a chill pill, gito, and have some fun.

It’s not a big deal.

Im like “seriously ?” … I have like 4 open classes a week . I dont really think it matters

For some reason, our guidance counselors really stress not taking an open period if you’re looking to go to a really competitive school. I could have taken a partial schedule this year, but I chose not to and just filled it with a dual-enrollment online class. If your school offers that option, it could be something to think about. So easy that it’s almost like a free period.

You don’t have to fill up every single slot in your schedule. Just chill.
