Hi, for those of you who have attended operation catapult at rose-hulman, did you feel that it was academically challenging and stimulating? because I looked at some past years' projects and thought that they seemed rather like typical science fair projects...

I am interested in applying though, so any input about the program would be helpful! :)

The projects are not terribly complicated for a couple of reasons. First of all, at Catapult you get a somewhat broad band of educational back ground. Some people have taken Calculus and all sorts of advanced sciences, whereas others have little more than your basic precalc and high school science classes.

The projects don't require so much intellectual genius and fortitude as they do good teamwork and coordination and creative design work. Some of the projects require more research and such than others, but they're all meant to be completed by your average above average math and science focused high school junior, so they can't be too complicated.

Academically it provides a good foray into engineering and such. It's not on par with a full blown summer research program or summer classes that some other universities offer, academics-wise, but I do guarantee that you will have more fun there than you will almost anywhere else. And being successful on your project is certainly rewarding too.
