opinion of grad/law schools of an undergrad umd/ubc degree

I'm a transfer trying to decide between University of Maryland and University of British Columbia and my parents are absolutely convinced if I go to UBC I will not get into a good grad/law school (leaning towards grad school though) or even a job. Does anyone here know how a degree from either school is viewed by graduate and law school admissions?

I'm majoring in linguistics and will minor either in Enviro science or history. I'm also a US citizen.

Thank you!

I'm not too familiar with Grad school, but I was under the impression that whatever test you have to take (LSAT, GMAT, etc) plays a much bigger role in admissions to upper-tier law schools than simply the place where you received your degree. Also, what you make of the college should have an effect. For example, if you go to Harvard and get a 2.1 versus going to a State School and getting a 3.9.
