Opinions of UGA and Chances

My profile:
-Washington state resident
-3.45 unweighted GPA
-3.5 dual credit GPA at the University of Washington (30 credit hours), in addition to 4 AP classes
-1910 SAT (1310 cr+m)
-Above average community involvement, captain of the baseball and football programs at my high school. Essays are strong.
-Potential business major

Obviously as a Washington resident, I have a limited perspective of the public perception of UGA. When I visited during February of last year I came away very impressed. I was amazed at the level of student facilities (Ramsey, MLC, Tate etc), and I think highly of the business school... Plus Athens kicks ass.

What do you guys think of UGA? Does a business degree from Georiga carry weight around the corporate world and prepare you for the future? Also, do you think my statistics above qualify me for admission?

Thanks!

Your GPA is low for U Georgia. Your SAT is pretty good. Your duel enrollment is impressive. I’m assuming you’re a part of the running start program? How many AP exams have you passed and how were your grades in them?

Here is last year’s admissions profile:
https://www.admissions.uga.edu/article/first-year-class-profile.html

Regarding the business school, Terry College of Business caries a very strong name in the corporate world. There are plenty of internship opportunities and the alumni network is very strong. Terry works with other undergraduate student organizations. They host plenty of lectures and conferences. Definitely a great program.

As a WA resident, you might want to look into University of Washington. Foster is also a great program. Washington State is also a good pick. Definitely worth applying to Georgia though. You never know. With budget cuts, many schools are turning to OOS tuition including U-Dub.

Hope that helps!

MD1785- Thank you for the input. For your information, I have passed 1 AP test, with 3 SR. year AP courses still pending.

At my school there is a favorable alternative to AP courses known as ‘UW’ courses. It is a variation of the running start program, and is a really good deal financially. I am blessed to be in a school district that offers the UW program… Each college I have applied to has been supplied with my HS transcript and UW transcript.

As for attending UW itself, I have applied and definitely am considering it. My father’s MBA is from the Foster School, and my girlfriend currently attends. I have had plenty of exposure to UW over the years, and have a lot of respect for the institution itself. The same cannot be said for WSU.

UGA and UW are definitely my top two choices, and I am not a shoo-in at either. In my opinion (a limited one), I tend to lean towards UGA because of the facilities, programs, and atmosphere. All I know is that neither school is the ‘wrong’ choice… I just hope to be accepted!

You seem motivated, bright and on the right track. Best of luck!

PS, sorry for the typos in my previous post.
