I got accepted to Chapman's Film Production program with a $12,000 scholarship, but my number one is still USC (I am still anxiously waiting for their decision) but basically I just want to know what people think of the school. From what I've heard (no offense) it sounds kind of boring... basically not much school spirit etc. I've heard the campus is nice but I don't know if I would want to go to college there. Chapman is looking appealing just because of the money and I got the major I wanted, but my heart is still set on USC. If anyone can give me a reason why Chapman is still a good choice that'd be great. :]

Im so nervous

they requested my 7th semester and it gone up...i hope they accept me....

it currently says

File Complete, Decision Pending

No worries, I only got accepted about a week or two ago, my stats aren't that great either, I'm surprised I even got a scholarship, I honestly wasn't expecting any kind of scholarship. What school did you apply to?
My film sup. was total crap to be quite honest, I didn't really put much effort into it (I finished it 20 minutes before I had to drive up my app. to Chapman, the day before the early admit deadline) I went back and read some of my stuff and it had typos lol. I'm sure you'll be fine, don't worry.

Scarletstar89, what were your stats?

Haha rather low I'd have to say:
1830 SAT
(Didn't report ACT)
620 Lit SAT II, 660 Spanish, 670 U.S. History
3.96 weighted gpa
3.69 unweighted
Top 9% of my class
like I said my stats are horrible
I definetely think my letters of rec helped (I applied for film production, and my letters were very film oriented), plus I took a Film and Digital Cinematography class at USC so that may have helped...
I have pretty good e.c.'s though: Commissioner of Video on ASB, Co-Founder/VP of Film Club, Certified Scuba Diver since I was 15, Four year member of CSF and my church youth group, I was a big part of Link Crew (I directed, wrote, edited, and produced the main freshman orientation video), I've had three jobs, I was on junior honor court, and I've won two awards that are film oriented. Not to mention I'm mexican american, ha so maybe that helped to?

Oh, and I got the Deans Scholarship lol, I still dunno how they came up with that one.

Scarletstar89, I asked some current college students which school they would prefer for film, and they were split. USC is known for film, but Chapman is getting more recognition and it's now considered the "coolest" film school. You should visit both and see for yourself. Once you are admitted to Chapman you can register to visit on a weekday and sit in on classes.

i'll be at USC on thurs-friday and Chapman on Saturday, so i'll provide any stark comparisons that i might come up with.

But when it all comes down to it, getting accepted to film production at USC is a huge accomplishment, and even if Chapman offers me more money (although I'm NMF so it's probably only a few thousand more if I don't get USC trustees)-- I'm almost positive I'm going to USC. I will not turn them down.

plus lately, I've been hearing that some people didn't like Chapman much, and one former teacher a friend of mine knows absolutely hated it because she said the kids were awful. I'll be seeing that for myself, but I hope it's not true. Until now I've only heard good things about Chapman. If USC had turned me down, I think I would go there.

well i'll see you at chapman this saturday then makkuroi lol

So, Chapman does have absolutely amazing facilities, and they're turning out some great student films. But I agree, the school spirit was seriously lacking, especially when juxtaposed with the USC Trojan spirit.

The campus was nice, but there's nothing right around it except antique stores, old houses, and some cute cafes. I'm a city girl, so that was culture shock, especially with the technologically intense studio in the middle of a small-town environment.

Some people would have the reverse opinions, however. I still highly respect the film program at Chapman, with its studio open 24/7 and everything. Many students were working on projects while we were there. The best thing to do for future people in this case is to visit the two campuses and see for yourself how you fit in with everything.

I, however, have chosen USC.

i totally agree with you makkuroi. i mean ya Chapman was very nice and new, I mean incredible facilities, it just seemed so boring... The first time I visited USC i fell in love, I knew it just fit and it felt so right, taking my class there made me feel even more like a student and i wanted it even more...I haven't gotten into USC yet but I really hope that I do because I know that's the type of environment I want to be in, I want to get out of Orange County (so sick of suburbia). I absolutely love USC and I hope I get in, see you there hopefully :]

Haha makkuroi do you have short brown hair? i knew you'd be at the dessert with dodge and i overheard a girl saying she got into USC, and I was wondering if it might be you lol

Hopefully within in the next month I can choose USC too.

My hair's blondeish-brownish and I think it was pinned up... i had a white jacket on. I hope you get in to USC too!

haha ya i think i did see you! were you with your mom? does she have blonde hair?
ya i sooo hope i get in, you have no idea how much i am freaking out right now lol.

i did call the cinema school and they said my app was in review, why would they pass my app on to the cinema school if it didn't pass through the general admissions process? hmm lol

So, I know nothing about my status...this sucks, I need to get into some "good" film school. But congrats on getting in.

I was with my grandma except she wasn't there for half the time and I was talking with somebody else's mom who was too sick to come in to the reception, poor thing, for a lot of the time. So who knows, lol
