@momtogirls2 in 9th grade we had spanish. But our spanish teacher left. I took a spanish class over the same through some thing though. Then in 10th grade we got french but I couldn’t take french because of AP Biology. Then we got a new french teacher and I took french 1. Now I can take french 2. There’s no french 3 or 4. Almost everyone takes college algebra idk why that’s just what they tell us to do. I asked my counselor about taking “brief calculus” before summer and she said the government won’t allow you to take it at the shcool so I would have to go to the campus to take it. I could ask about taking trig or statistics(idk if it will count as a high school math credit, she didn’t have it listed as one of the options). I’ve already had trig though(precalculus was basiclaly just trig) and I heard it was insanely difficult so it might drop my GPA. A lot of majors require college algebra or calculus. Brief calculus idk even why I should pay for that if it isn’t going to help if I require calculus. For nursing I’m pretty sure you just need college algebra. And for accounting/computer science you definitely need calculus. but idk where college trig comes in? Who takes college trig? Math majors? I just wish there’s was AP calc. But they promoted our old calc teacher to a college career, ready counselor. And my school has a hard enough time finding a decent algebra 1 teacher. My dad doesn’t know anything about that type of math lol. We need proctors because everyone at my school is dumb and there’s a lot of kids that fail their college classes. They made it more strict last semester like you have to fill out a sheet every time you do an assignment and stuff like that. Apparently everyone was doing so bad but I don’t get why they are even allowed to take them. Our school does Pe/health. And on tuesday and thursday we went to the gym then on the other days we did health class. And it’s for a full year and everyone does it freshmen year. Also there’s a weightlighting class but I’m not into that. I haven’t taken SAT but I took ACT in sophomore year and march this year and I’m taking it again in September/October. I made a 25 both times before. But i’ve been practicing all summer. I’ve taken 5 full practice tests(from crackact) and got between a 29-31. (29 twice, 30 once, 31 twice) I’m reading the black book right now and I’m doing the old red book tests. I haven’t finished them all yet though. But I’m getting close. I think I will probably get 32-33 on these practice tests. My best scores on all my tests are 36e, 32m, 33r, 32s.
@momtogirls oh sorry the *** is the name of a website that has released official act tests i guess you can’t say it on this site
Remember with both AP and dual enrollment there is no guarantees that a college will give you credits. It is up to the individual college to decide. For AP they typically give credit based on a certain score (3, 4, or 5) and for dual enrollment have grade requirements (usually C or higher). However they may not count as anything, they may not count but allow you to start at different class, they may count as a requirement, or they may just count as free electives.
I’m not familiar with brief calculus but if it is the same as Calculus for Business majors many schools accept that as math for an accounting major. My daughter thought about it but is going with Calculus I.
Just a thought - since you have English yearly you probably only need to take English 101 to get credit for senior English at your high school. That would open up a spot for a different dual enrollment class. Do you have a dual enrollment computer science option, intro to business etc.
For history do you need a specific requirement - for instance our school requires a year of US History I, a year of US History 2 or APUSH (which doesn’t replace US History 1), and a year of modern world history/AP World. My daughter needed a modern world history for dual enrollment so she took World Civ from 1500.
@momtogirls2 Yeah I know like nyu doesn’t accept AP language or English 101. Also you have to take both English 101 and 102 to get the high school credit. I wanted to take college chemistry or physics(I already have bio credit through AP) but the guidance counselor said you have to take both. On the accounting major curriculums I’ve looked at they say Calculus 1. For nyu you have to get a 30 on ACT math to take calculus though. They probably make the other people take college algebra first. Apparently English 101/102 is pretty difficult but I like challenge. I think you just write a bunch of papers. We get our required history out of the way fresh-junior everyone takes the same class. But you can take honors or regular. Last year we had an end of course exam by the state on US history and I got highest score in grade. Then senior year you take AP world or dual credit. For dual credit I’m going to take either us history post civil war or world civilization. I like us history more but I think world is considered easier. I heard AP world was horrible and lots of work and I’m not good at history(besides us and government) actually got a b+ sophromore year on world civ.
@momtogirls2 another major I’m thinking of is nutrition(to become a dietitian) but I haven’t looked into this much. If I do it I’ll probably try to double major with cs or accounting
