I wanted to take AP Chemistry this year but I couldn’t take it along with physics. As for other APs, AP World occurs 4th period, so I wouldnt be able to take Anatomy. AP Language occurs at 3rd block so I wouldn’t be able to take Accounting 2. Also, I might be able to change intro to multimedia to French 2. I want to major in nursing or accounting and computer science
Why are you not taking AP Calc? That is more important than A&P or Accounting or multimedia or marketing.
Also you have no foreign language…why? Make sure you look at colleges that don’t require it.
College algebra comes before precalculus. Why are you doing college algebra after precalculus instead of taking Calculus 1 for dual enrollment which is basically AP AB Calculus?
Colleges like to see at least two years of the same language. Often the more selective the school the more years or levels of completion of the same language are desired. I would drop multimedia and replace it with either Elementary Spanish 2 or Elementary French 2 then in the spring take Intermediate language.
Unless it is a dual enrollment class I would probably drop principles of marketing. You’ll need it at many colleges as a business class for accounting but it isn’t needed to get accepted into an accounting major. If you might try a cs degree can you replace it with a computer class?
@momtogirls2 I can’t take calculus at all. We don’t have calculus teacher and to take calculus at the college you have to actually go there so I would have to drive an hour and miss school. I can only take 2 colleges classes at the same time so I can’t take college foreign language. Principles of marketing isn’t a dual credit class. I have already taken a computer class where all you do is follow instructions for putting things into Microsoft office. The other computer class is the same thing. But I hate the teacher and it’s not programming at all.
@momtogirls2 AP Language occurs 3rd blcok and accounting occurs 3rd block and I can’t take both. I want to take accounting so I can better understand if I want to major in accounting. Our ap language teacher doesn’t really care either. I had her in 10th grade and she didn’t grade anything all year. I only have one science class (Physics) so I can’t drop a science. My guidance counselor said that they are working on getting a proctor for college classes during 6th period which is when intro to multimedia occurs. So I could take french 2 1st block. Also nobody takes more than 2 levels of foreign language at my school. Really the only people that take foreign language are honors students and we don’t have a 3rd level. We don’t have ap statistics. During 7th grade they decide if you will take pre algebra and like 40 kids in my grade were in pre algebra. Then in 8th grade we took algebra 1 but some people got dropped so it was like 20-30 now. Then in 9th grade some more people got dropped and it was 20ish of us taking honors geometry. Then algebra 2 in 10th. And 11th you can take college algebra or honors precalculus. Only like 2-3 people in our grade took college algebra and the rest took honors precalculus. Then in 12th all of us are taking college algebra. The other 2 are taking college trig which my friend told me was insanely difficult.
Sorry I’m not familiar with your math sequence. Kids in dual enrollment here take college algebra as an equivalent to algebra 2 then precalculus then Calculus I with trig being covered in college algebra and precalculus so no separate trig class. We are fortunate to live just a few miles to a community college which is free for high school student doing dual enrollment including books. While most kids do opt for taking dual enrollment at the community college there are also online classes in many subjects which if chosen are done on your own time so no need for proctors. The negative is that we have a rotating schedule so you either do full time dual enrollment or can only take 1 dual enrollment class per semester while doing a full day high school schedule.
If your applying to a college that is familiar with your school you should be fine. If your applying further away or a more selective college you might want to call their admissions office and ask for advice. They are usually friendly and helpful over the phone.
You should have a level 2 in a foreign language, either dual enrollment or AP language l, find a way to take either calculus 1 or college statistics.
Core classes are English, math (precalculus or calculus), history/social science (economics, political science…), science (Bio, Chem, Physics are the three big ones), and foreign language (level 3, 4 or AP but if that’s not possible, level 2 is the minimum). You need one of each this year. Then only add electives.
High school accounting is to college accounting what 7th grade physical science is to physics - it won’t tell you whether you should major in it.
@momtogirls2 precalculus was basically all trig then some review of algebra 2 and some other things about graphs. We get 1 class a semester free from community college. Then you can take one other class for a discounted price. We have to have proctors and we take them at school not on our own time. Also a semester counts for one credit in high school. Anatomy used to be a science but I think they changed it now it’s just an elective class for the medical/nursing path. Also for math we have some weird math class for standard kids. I think the two kids that were taking college algebra dropped down to standard and are taking business math next year. Business math is like adding and multiplying and stuff.
@MYOS1634 we don’t have AP language and I don’t have room for dual enrollment language. I can’t take college calculus online. We only have level 2 French at my school. Last yr I took accounting 1 and it helped me decide if I liked it or not. My teacher said it same as one chapter of college accounting. So obviously not the same level but it can help decide if I like it or not. And I did but I want to see what’s next in accounting so I want to take accounting 2 which instead of doing it on the paper we do it on the computer and do quickbooks.
My daughter did both honors accounting 1 and 2 in high school and principles of accounting 1 and 2 in college dual enrollment (she plans to major in accounting. Principles of Accounting was more advanced and computer based vs high school but she found both high school and dual enrollment to be easy. She wants to major in accounting.
@momtogirls2 yeah accounting was so easy but a lot of people found it difficult for some reason. It was pretty fun though. Hopefully accounting 2 will be fun. I think it’s just the same things we learned last year but we are doing them on the computer and getting invoices and stuff like that.
You’ll be fine for UK and UoL (you should even aim for honors, and WKU Honors for sure) with this schedule but not for NYU or WashU. These will expect a more rigorous schedule. However since your targets would be fine, except for not taking French 2 (<= priority, make sure to take), do what you think is best. You asked for advice on your schedule, so know that taking AP Lit and French will make you more competitive for admissions (and will be the only way you meet minimum expectations at your reaches). After that, it’s up to what you can and want to do.
I honestly think Northeastern and BU will be a reach as well. Your schedule is lacking rigor in math and foreign language. Your math is fine until your senior year when you repeat a sophomore year level class and they will notice that most likely. I agree with focusing on the 5 core classes and not so many electives.
Have you asked your parents to get involved with math? I’m still not understand the need for a proctor to take an online dual enrollment class. I also don’t understand the school wanting you to repeat classes.
Personally I think it would help more for college to give up accounting 2 and take AP Language then do French 2/3 through dual enrollment. This would make you more of a competitive applicant.
Do you just need 1 semester of PE? I know that varies - we need 1.5 years of gym and 1/2 year of health.
@MYOS1634 This is most rigorous schedule at my school though. We only have 5 aps. 1. AP chem (wanted to take but can’t take because of physics) 2. ap biology(took sophomore year) 3. ap lit(took junior year) 4. ap world(i don’t really like history and am taking dual credit class for history, world occurs fourth block the same time as anatomy) 5. ap language(taking english 101/102 instead). If you look at people in my grade none of them took AP Bio and Chemistry sophomore year. Only 5 juniors took AP Lit. Most people don’t have any APs at all. Probably only 10-13 have taken AP classes. All the seniors are taking either algebra 2, honors precalc, pre calc, business math, or college algebra. I’ve already taken AP Lit. If you mean ap lang our teacher is super bad and what’s the difference with english 101/102? With 101/102 you get 6 english credits but with lang you only get 3. Also i didn’t take ap lit test because of finances. Idk if I will be able to take French 2 because it might not work in my schedule(bc of anatomy) but if I can I’m taking it instead of intro to multimedia.
