Opinions on UCLA's communications major/program?

background: I am a transfer student at a CCC.

I can never find any current or graduated comm. majors! Are there any communication students who can comment on their opinion of the major? Do you recommend it? Does it prepare you well for marketing/PR/advertising/etc. careers? Does it have good connections?

I recently got accepted to UNC Chapel Hill for Media & Journalism (concentration in public relations & advertising) and I am very tempted to cash in my SIR especially since I want to apply for housing right away before my options run out. However, UCLA is in-state and is much cheaper while with UNC I have to pay full OOS price + housing. If I get accepted to UCLA, should I go? If I get rejected to UCLA, is it worth it to stay another year at community college and try to transfer again? Is UCLA’s program not even worth it and I should just commit to UNC already?

I was interested in UCLA, it was my top choice and I was willing to reapply if rejected, but all I see about the communication program is very negative, saying it’s a “joke major” and just for students who want to “coast by learning nothing.” It doesn’t help that it gets compared to its rival USC which is #1 for journalism/communication.
