Opinions please

Hi! I know that probably this isn't the thread to ask this and that getting into an Ivy league sometimes seems to be by chance but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if my stats are good enough for Yale. I ask because I really, really like the school (its not the fact that its an ivy league, but its a plus) and am in desperate need of financial aid and if I get accepted my parents won't have to contribute anything thanks to my family's income.
SO yeah, here they are:

ACTcomp: 31

SAT: too low, really, not up to par, took it in a bad day... 1770/2400

GPA: 4.0

Heritage: hispanic/ I'm from Puerto Rico but attended a bilingual school, the only problem is our school does not offer AP courses but our spanish is considered advanced and depending on your grade and classroom performance is that you get to take more advenced math like precalculus in junior year and calculus in senior year.

Extracurriculars: take violin classes since 10th grade(wouldve bean earlier but coudnt afford), modeling (i'm in a modeling agency, magazines, fashion shows, promotion, castings), was in the top ten out of a thousand in a magazine modeling contest, have done and presented scientific research projects as part of a team in a program of the National scientific foundation(I think thats what it is), co-founder and columnist(health) in school newspaper, went on a summer program in a college in michigan where I earned 1 biology college credit, this summer i'm giving news via telephone to a spanish radio station in New Jersey every saturday i can, and i've been in the soccer team of my school while it lasted for a semester, played soccer intramurals and summer camp in 9th and 10th grade, i won 1st place from the whole high school junior year in english week for a poem i submitted, um i don't recall any other right now except for a few comunity service activities and the fact that there is no functional college counsler in our school, just one normal counsler and I know more than she does about college and the admissons process, sat's and act's, so everyone in my school that aspires to study in the states has to do it by themselves unless they can pay for one outside (could that count for leadership, or self-motivation?)

oh and I'm fully bilingual (spanish, english) and a female(just in case)

I'm not sure if i have missed anyhing else, but i'm really worried also about the fact that there are no actual AP courses at my schools...

I'l appreciate feedback! Good luck in your college years!

u are financial aid, u are a URM, you can't take rigorous courses cause ur school doesn't offer, ur SAT is low....but... who knows. if i were i would apply to harvard as well... it seems more ppl w/ ur situation get in there.

u are involved in the community/school- that is good... i meant to say if i was u i would....

I am not a big fan of chance threads, but I have to say you have several positive things going for you, URM, solid ACT (I would consider retaking the SAT though, or take a course...the one I took did wonders for me), and a clear demonstration of committment to the various activities you have chosen to participate in.

Don't worry TOO much about scores at this point...my only suggestion...and I don't know if there is enough time....but maybe you can try some courses at a community college. That would have been my route if my school didn't offer APs.

Best of luck...but once again, don't freak over SAT thing. There is still time and regardless it is a pretty ambiguous piece of a very complicated and frustrating pie.

"and a female(just in case)"

haha the way it was written seemed like you'd change your app to put this lol

but yeah, you have a shot, under the circumstances

""and a female(just in case)"

haha the way it was written seemed like you'd change your app to put this lol"

lol thats funny. thank you for your time and opinions!....though i'm not sure why i'm writing this because they'll probably not read it...hehe, oh well:)

Eh, unless you're recruited it's going to be pretty damned hard to get in with a 1770...

Yea it doesn't matter if you are a URM. A 1770 is too low. URM's are only given maybe a 100 point boost. Plus you could have taken community college classes during the school year but who knows.

I don't even see the reason why you should even bother with the SATs with such an outstanding ACT score. With the ACT your SAT II requirements are also fulfilled so that leaves you more time to write an outstanding essay that weaves everything you said on this board into a 500 word masterpiece. If you are able to pull this off and follow the advice about improving your ECs or your dedication to them, you have a slightly better than normal chance. (Which is still dismal but you never know until you try, good luck!)

"Plus you could have taken community college classes during the school year but who knows."
I never knew you could do that...

"Eh, unless you're recruited it's going to be pretty damned hard to get in with a 1770..." um, thats why i was reluctant to put my score, but i also have the 31 in the ACT

Don't let them see the SAT. You are not required to tell them about the SAT. My D got admitted to Yale with an ACT of 31, and another D got into Yale with an ACT a few points below. Both Hispanic. So go for it(also Stanford; great place).
