Before continuing, I would like to state that I am posting this for a FRIEND. She did not ask me to post this, but I truly believe that she is underestimating herself and I would like to hear some opinions about how she would stack up at Yale or any other Ivy/Top tier schools.

Again, NOT ME:

EC's:

Volunteer: 500+ hours tutoring

Awards:

Major: Environmental Engineering

Any opinions?

opinions? well, she's got good scores and a great GPA (although relatively few AP's, but I don't know how many are offered at your school) , but the clubs and EC's are reallllyyyyy lacking. The tutoring might make up for it, but I still feel like there's no real depth besides that. I mean, no offense, but EVERYONE in high school does Key Club/NHS. That leaves only the tutoring and the earth club...plus she doesn't have any major awards (but then again, neither do I). I'm not saying any of this disqualifies her from being accepted to a fantastic school, but I don't think it would be fair to say she's an auto-admit. Hopefully she has some stellar recs and a fantastic essay. I hope she gets in!

I'm sorry if I implied that she was an auto-in, I know that's far from the truth for almost anyone applying.

Thank you for your insight!

Not much of a chance. Very little schedule rigor, mediocre test scores/rank, and clubs that just don't really hold up to Yale standards. Your friend can apply, but she is more likely than not a slightly below-average applicant.

Good scores and somewhat ok rank. I would give her the same chance most of the Yale applicants receive, but slightly less because of her lack of EC's...
