Hey, guys, I'm a student from Shanghai, China and well, the thing is that yesterday, I logged onto a website which is recruiting native english speaking students to teach chinese kids english on line at home. Then the idea struck me that what if chinese students can teach chinese in the same way to those who are interested in chinese culture and language, especially students who are seeking tutors to improve chinese to pass sat subject tests or who are just interested. I am now seriously considering the matter and plan to set up a website or something.
I'd really, really appreciate your opinions. Any idea is welcome!!!

If you feel really strongly about something, than do it. That's my policy. It doesn't matter what any one of us thinks.

On the sidenote, I think that it sounds like a great idea. It may be difficult to start up, but I'm sure with dedication it is possible. Good Luck!

well, i also believe in your policy and thanks for your support. Why I start the thread is that I'd like to know how many of you would like to learn chinese and in such a way?

I would love to learn Chinese. Do you plan on doing like.. video conferencing or like....?

Well, if you find some sort of organization to piggyback onto, it all looks rosy. I say piggyback b/c I personally wouldn't take lessons from a floating internet personality.

start small... do tutoring around your neighborhood, gather interest. then get them to testify to how good you are at your craft. word of mouth is better than any commercial.

then set up your website once you have a big enough base.

well, my plan is that the whole tutoring thing is internet based which means either the tutors nor the students need to leave their home and this makes the learning and teaching all more enjoyable and convenient. and every student will be assigned a certain tutor, the tutoring will be done most likely in summer and at a certain hour of day, so there won't be floating or anything uncertain. teachers will talk to students with the webcams. it's like normal tutoring, and the only difference is the tutor and student see each other on the screen instead of face to face.
